Confused…. Like many people my husband & I went to Electric City Gardens for the first time with a Wag Jag coupon- We enjoy eating out and were really excited to try somewhere new.The restaurant was very busy that night but the server was still able to give us very attentive service. The meal was good- better than average for Peterborough but was not Amazing like I’ve heard from other people. When I mentioned this the server gave me back my Wag Jag coupon and told us to use it another time! We declined the offer- after all the meal was well worth the $30 we spent – (really can’t beat 15 bucks each for an entree AND a glass of wine- even with tax & tip it is an outstanding deal- plus they honour expired Wag Jags!) Not sure how people can be so disappointed with this place that they lash out- especially after only going once. We have returned many times since then with & without coupons and have enjoyed ourselves. BTW: Best Cherry Cheesecake in the World!
Absolutely awful. Went on dinner with friends. Initial impression was the decor was like the left overs at the dump. Some tables were cluttered with random junk. Waitress was incredibly rude, making inappropriate comments, even so far as to joke about tainting food. Tiny appetizer was over-priced at given a total misnomer. Entree was alright, but given that I wasn’t particularly interested in any of the *three* options, it was hard to enjoy – especially at the price. Experience was awkward and stressful, I will be steering myself and friends clear of this establishment. Only positive note was the chef was pleasant.
My Favourite. I’ve never been disappointed. It’s my favourite spot. Sometimes you have to be brave because Toby like to provide creations a little beyond the standard fare. I’m always looking to see where he’s going to take me next.Btw, he has a fabulous Sunday brunch too.
Lovely owner, but food just mediocre. After reading the reviews (after purchasing the Wagjag deal), I was very reluctant to make a reservation due to the very mixed reviews, but I also didnt want to waste my money. Sad to say that I did waste my money. First, let me say that I am not a picky person and I dont complain about much. After our experience at Electric City Garden, unfortunately we wont be returning. Aside from meeting Toby, the owner and chef, we did not enjoy our meal at all. Toby is a wonderful man….very friendly and we really enjoyed chatting with him. Through our conversation we learned that he has a passion for cooking but has never received any formal culinary training. Could be part of the reason why I would not consider the Electric City Gardens a fine dining experience but rather a place where you can go if you are looking for a better than average, home cooked meal. I have experienced fine dining in Peterborough, as well as throughout the country and abroad and the Electric City Gardens falls way short. The presentation of our entrees was not visually pleasing and certainly not what I would expect from a fine dining experience. The food lacked flavor, the potatoes seems to have been baked in a microwave; there was way too much gravy and the meat was way too undercooked. My husband struggled to eat any of his meal….just the look of it made him nauseous. It looked like a big sloppy mess. The bread was not fresh and putting it in a microwave to heat it up is just wrong. I kept hearing beeping (barely anyone in the restaurant) and so I could only assume that a microwave was being used for parts of our meal. I swear the squash that was served was also prepared in a microwave. It was piping hot and given the size of it, there was no way it could have been prepared in such a short time frame other than in the microwave. The dcor needs to be updated badly and while I can appreciate and admire that the menu changes on a daily basis, showing the menu on a dirty whiteboard is, again not what I would expect from a restaurant that claims to provide a fine dining experience. There are ways to make a hand written menu look visually pleasing. My husband was a little surprised to see that we were taxed on the value of the overall meal. Its like buying something on sale for $50, but you are charged the taxes for the full price of $75. Not sure that is legal. And we didnt even receive an actual bill but rather a hand written bill that appeared to be written on a cash registry tape. My husband looked at me and said seriously, youve got to be kidding me. And we didnt even receive a receipt. Overall , very disappointed and we certainly wont return. If I am going to be charged fine dining prices, then I expect to receive a fine dining experience and the Electric City Gardens failed big time!
Fantastic food and extremely friendly and homey service. Not pretentious, just fresh and delicious local good food. Lots of butter and they do special requests as a matter of course. Funky recycled decor added to the homey atmosphere.
There is not enough words in the thesaurus to describe how delicious the food is here. A definite go to restaurant.
Enjoyed the WagJag Deal. A couple of months ago had dinner at Electric City Gardens for the first time and really enjoyed ourselves. The atmosphere was warm and inviting- the chef Toby even painted a lot of the pictures on the wall. The food was exceptional- the service was attentive and we even got a 2 for 1 Brunch coupon- (BTW- Brunch was incredible- OMG- Eggs Benedict mmmmmmm)This is the kind of restaurant that we have always been searching for- everything is made fresh and is delicious. There is only a few items on the menu because it changes so frequently but they take requests and suggestions. The next time we went- for my birthday- it was great too. There wasn’t any steak but we had an incredible fish & mussel stew and grilled lamb. There was even a chocolate cheesecake and Toby brought it out and sang Happy Birthday to me. I even got a white tablecloth- I felt very special. I have read a bunch of reviews and really don’t understand why people are so critical. We all bought a WagJag for $30- for that price we get 2 entrees and 2 glasses of wine. When we went Filet Mignon was on the menu- it is regularly priced at $32- that is more than the cost of the WagJag and we both had steak which was double the amount we paid for WagJag and we had wine. It is an incredible deal. If there is something you don’t like about your meal say something at the restaurant- (turns out my fiance likes his lamb cooked longer- wasn’t a problem)- really didn’t like it- just don’t go back- there is no need to be cruel hiding behind the anonymity of the internet. We loved the whole dining experience and will definitely return!!
