Tyler (the head chef) made me and my partners dinner so special. I am allergic to dairy which makes eating out quite difficult. He changed the marinade that would have been used with my dish and checked in that I would like the changes. He also took the time to explain the sourcing of each part of our meal. So wonderful!
Second Dinner Party. After our first dinner party and had a bad experience, we were begged to return for a second. This time we thought we should put our two cents worth….. Each time we had steak, spent over $200.00, but still did not get the up-scale service, nor food that they rave about! Our 21day old aged steak was caked with the same sauce everyone’s striploin and ribeye steak was smothered in. The wine brought to our table was served by hand and not on a tray and they also did not pour the glass for us. The desserts were served as a plate you would get at a hockey arena. I say Gertis is your best bet for this town. It has an atmosphere and some culture with a good bite.

Rare Rocks. We went to Rare on a rare ‘date night’ while visiting Peterborough and it was a fantastic night. We ordered the featuure entree salad and it was fresh, light and tasty, made with locally grown greens we were told. I ordered a steak which was truly cooked to perfection and was acommpanied by a mushroom risotto that as others have reviewed, needs to be a dish on its own. This steak was probably the most tender and well cooked steak I have ever had, and I eat a lot of steak! My husband had as Asian Burger, which came with kimchi and an edamame and wasabi mayo. He said it was really tasty, but a little odd, even though it all worked well together. The meat pattie itself was fantastic. Then we shared an apple tart – probably the most spectacular dessert I have ever eaten. Beautifully caramelised apples and a wonderful batter… divine. The wine list was great too, and staff were helpful in matching wtih our meal choices.Overall a wonderful evening and for us, well worth the money.
