A bit slow, but that’s part of the charm as they are warm and friendly and make you feel at home. Authentic, well done and even our extraordinarily picky child can’t get enough of the fried chicken. I’m partial to the Jerk Chicken myself. Great spot.
The woman who runs this restaurant is very friendly and always a pleasure to see. My favourite thing from here is the oxtail combo, which comes with delicious rice, a coleslaw, and roasted potatoes. All of the food is excellent quality, and I love going there for my lunch break at work.
Clean, Bright, Tasty & Friendly. I love their rice and peas. I love the fact that the oils used are trans fat free and that the plantains (when avlbl) are not over ripe and not greasy like many others. One tip: Never serve the last of the stew out of the pot with bones that the meat have fallen off and still charge full-price for it – only happened once in all my years going here to eat but hope they now know never ever treat customers to left-overs. As far as the space, it is one of the cleanest, brightest, modern looking take-outs that are sit-down spaces that you can actual sit-in comfortably and enjoy a clean look and smell while you eat. Most places are just take-out counters or spend little time making the place look modern, and not smell like cleaning products or under-cleaned. This place has managed to stay clean, modern and fresh smelling over the years. A little more restaurant-type Caribbean decor on walls would improve the place – check out the Thai place next door for classy tips. Ambience attracts a crowd and encourages them to stay which makes others come in if they see a full eatery. My top 3 Caribbean eateries in all the GTA….support them.
A Taste of the Islands. Went there last night with my family. They let you taste their food first, if you’re a first-time customer. Jerk Chicken was moist but the Oxtail Stew could have been better. I hope to see some Chinese-Caribbean dishes as well. Owner was very friendly. Will definitely go back.
Nice, pleasant atmosphere in the store, and we’ll definitely return.. Went there on a Sunday afternoon for the first time, and had roast chicken and vegetables, as well as oxtail and ackee. The oxtail could have used a little more spice, but everything else was excellent! Ackee was some of the best I’ve had.
