Cozy, basement style environment. The service was quick and good. I had to try the pancakes here – they were thin, moist and egg tasting. They were different but tasty with syrup on top. The sausages were really good, it has a smoky flavour to them.

We were sent here by our hotel staff for lunch- with a recommendation to get the Finnish Pancakes. I took her advice and got 3 pancakes (which are really like plate-sized crepes, very thin and firm) served with a bowl of strawberry sauce and another bowl of real whipped cream. I’m not sure how they are supposed to be eaten but I treated them like crepes, rolled each one with strawberries and cream inside, then more strawberries over the top. YUM! My husband was not as pleased with his choice of another traditional dish that was rye dough with rice inside and egg salad on top – not his cup of tea but we saw several other patrons who were really enjoying it. The restaurant is in a shopping area of small, private shops, and is housed in the basement of the Finnish Labor Temple. It is a cooperative restaurant, the food is prepared as it is ordered so there is a wait that is longer than some people may be used to- but the pancakes were worth it. The wait staff was friendly, checked on us frequently, made suggestions, and told us some of the history of the restaurant. They are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and have a special board for all three meals. munchingqueen.wordpress.com

When visiting Thunder Bay we wanted to visit local ‘hot spots’. Tried the famous Finnish pancakes with eggs and sausage. Good breakfast. I would have liked my pancakes a bit more cooked. They seemed a bit doughy but not having them before I wasn’t sure what to expect. It was suggested I order them well done next time, by someone local after the fact. This a very unassuming place. Server was nice.

Been there for there famous Finnish pancakes. They are the best. Served along with sausages and eggs, they just bring instant water to the mouth. Being a foodie, i think they are one of best restaurants in thunder bay

Great place. After seeing this place featured on You Gotta Eat Here, I wanted to try but living in Winnipeg, it was not going to happen. I got to go to Thunder Bay to pick up a kitten and my husband and I went for breakfast. I had the pancakes and I could not resist so I ordered the parjalan piirakka with egg salad and it was awesome. The service was great, the food was awesome and I don’t understand all the bad reviews because it was great. I am glad hey are not close to home cause that would be lethal to the waistline

I know I’m supposed to love it just because I live here but it’s just not very good. The food always takes a long time and it’s mediocre at best (canned mushrooms??!). You even have to get in a long line to pay. Not the cleanest place in the world, could use some love.

What happened. This restaurant was a go to spot a few years ago. Now it is a dirty dingy not well cooked food place.
