We have lived in Port for over 10 years now, and The Gourmet has sort of flown under the radar for us until one of our good friends recommended it as a place to have a some tasty chinese food. They really impressed us with their buffet, as we weren’t expecting much at first, but the selection is ample and more importantly, the food was seasoned well from the spareribs (Really tasty!) to the meaty chicken balls and salt baked shrimp. We’re sure to go back and recommend it to our friends as a hidden gem in this city!
My Second Home!. The Gourmet truly is a gem here in Port! The place may not be as large as Mandarin and the food selection may not be as grand as Mandarin, but the QUALITY of everything is what makes this restaurant outstanding. The service is commendable; Tina, the host and owner of the restaurant, and the staff are ALWAYS warm and welcoming. The food is always hot and fresh. I do not know of any restaurant that accommodates the customers to an extent where they OFFER to cook more food when you arrive so that it is at the highest degree in quality. I do have to comment that the exterior aesthetics of the restaurant do need some work, however, all other aspects of the restaurant are excellent.
Fantastic Food and Good Price. Just glancing at the website and like the other reviewer I had to write one in response to the first. I’ve eaten at a lot of Chinese buffets in a lot of places, and The Gourmet is perhaps my favourite Chinese restaurant anywhere. True the buffet is small, but it has more than enough dishes unless you’re going to go for 3 or 4 plates – and the food is high quality and delicious, as well as affordable. I’d agree that the salads and desserts are nothing to rave about, but salads and desserts aren’t what I go to a Chinese restaurant for. I go for the Chinese food. And the Chinese food at the Gourmet is fantastic!
Great!. The other reviewer must be doing an unfair comparison. It does not pretend to be the Mandarin. It has GREAT FOOD, see other restaurant sites who rate it at 4 plus stars out of 5. Not a lot of variety but plenty of variety unless you are a pig. As a former pig, I understand. Good FRESH FOOD AT LESS THAN $9.00 for lunch. Just trying to be conservative but I believe the price for lunch buffet is $6.99 or at the most $7.99. The sign of a good restaurant is … DO THE LOCALS EAT THERE? Every time we have been the restaurant is 1/2 to 3/4 full on weekday noons.I had to write this review because I saw the other one that was absolutely ridiculous! Either he owns a competing restaurant or has unreal expectations! We like it and we eat at the Mandarin too.
Chinese passable food. Barely ediblenot a great selectiondo not recommend
