Ambiance: this place is perfect in the summer for patio dinning with their colourful patio furniture, live music and colourful graffiti wall on one side. Food:Guacamole: they bring it in a rock bowl, and mash all of the ingredients in front of you. It was tasty, a bit of heat but delicious. The chips they bring with that are hit and miss. The first batch we got was very stale, we requested new chips and got fresher ones. Chimichanga: the description sounded delicious but this was such a dissapointment. It was very cooked possibly due to over cooking. It was tough to eat the whole thing without some sort of dressing. The plates doesn’t come with much sauce to begin with.
201904/28As we were heading through Port Credit, we stopped at El Jefe for dinner. The restaurant entrance is set back from the sidewalk about 25 metres. In the area between the sidewalk and the entrance is a long narrow covered patio on one side, and on the others side is a huge Day of the Dead mural, giving a hint about the decor inside. Once inside, the Day of the Dead theme continued, within very dark coloured surroundings. SWBMO decided on the Enchiladas with Ground Beef filling. She opted for the Cilantro Crema sauce instead of the Tomatillo. It was served in a hot stoneware bowl, which kept the food hot from first bite to last. Lots of good flavours and textures. I went fairly simple and picked the Quesadilla with Chicken. The chicken and melted cheese had a pleasant mild smoky heat. Service was pleasant and polite.
Dish: Chicken Chimichanga Review: This dish was good but nothing special. Ive had my fair share of Mexican food and I love me my tacos and burritos! It was definitely really filling but I wish there were more layers of flavour in the actually burrito, I got tired of eating it after a while but not because I was full. After a while I ended up just eating the inside leaving the shell at the end of my plate. Ive definitely had better Mexican food!
