I tried many dishes at this restaurant and everything was fine. Nothing bad, nothing outstanding, except for the spicy fish in soup dish. That was VERY very good. Loved the unique, lingering heat, and the texture of the fish, although it was far too salty for me. I also really liked the peking duck and the pickled cucumbers. Oh and I did Not like the dumplings, which was disappointing, because I love dumplings. Service was fine. cookingwithalison.com
I dunno if it’s because I just don’t like Northern Chinese food very much, but I did not enjoy my experience here. Considering Peking duck is in their name, I expected their signature dish to be impressive. However, the duck arrived within 5 min, leading me to believe they prepare them ahead of time. It was very fatty, and the skin was almost soft instead of crispy. I definitely would’ve liked to see them slice the duck at our table (isn’t that part of the experience??). As for their other dishes, the food leans toward saucy, oily, and rich. Flavours were too heavy and sauces were too thick for my liking. As the cherry on top, they don’t accept credit card! The boss was NOT pleased about that. I will not be returning, nor will I be recommending this place to anyone.
This is our first visit at the Richmond Hill location. We have been to the Markham location when it first opened, so it’s been awhile. First impression was that the restaurant looked like fine dining – high ceilings, chandeliers, and spacious seating. Unfortunately the service was far from fine dining. I usually have low expectations dining at Chinese restaurants but this surpassed it. First there was no service and when we needed service it was rude and slow. We ordered two of the same soup noodle and they came out at least 30 minutes apart. We ordered 2 because we had a large group of 8 so everyone could have some. Everyone did however enjoy the food (thats why it got a 1.5 rating) but it was a bit pricey for what you get.
Dayali newest location just opens up in Richmond Hill. The interior feel a lot more spacious and with more small tables good for 2 or 4 people which is welcoming since reservation is not accepted for 5 or more people.Obviously, one should be ordering Beijing Roast Duck but for tonight I decided to try out other items on their huge menu.Stewed Large Meatballs in Brown Sauce ($3) – A-OK but was a little cold when servedSauteed Shredded Pork in Sweet Bean Sauce ($9.99) – standardStir-Fried Pea Sprouts ($9.99) – standardSteamed Buns with Meat Fillings ($6.99) Rice Noodle in Spicy and Sour Broth ($3.29) – lack spiciness or sourness, cheap carb fillerSignature Breaded Da Ya Li Pear ($2) – My favourite item of the meal, #everythingtastebetterdeepfriedThough there were only 2 tables at 9:15 pm, 45 minute before closing, The kitchen was extremely slow. I almost want to leave when the steamed buns and pear just took forever to be ready.Might be back again for other items. Hours of opening though was odd since they closes 10 pm daily, a little early for Chinese restaurants?Waitstaff is super nice, really apologetic for the slowness of the kitchen and even let me yell at him a little.
