Rain or shine. I have been hitting up the Food Cabbie for the last couple of months now. I have to honestly say that Spiros has some of the best food I crave in this city. Here are the top 3 reasons I keep going back to this truck:1. The Patty Melt – Wait for this amazing sandwich to hit the specials! American Swiss, Grilled Onions, and this fantastic Spicy Ketchup, all on Caraway Rye. Yes I said Caraway, who does that? The result is truly Amazing!2. The Chicago Style Hot Dawg- Often I will sit down and watch the Cubbies and try to duplicate this Chi-Town Tradition, but Spiros has it down pat. He has the Neon Green Relish that can really only be found in Illinois, add the sport peppers (again in Illinois) and the Custom Made Hot Dogs that truly are the best you can find down town. No filler, nothing, I dont think I could ever get a street Dog again after eating this Dawgs. The ONLY kicker about this Hot Dawg is the bun… Food Cabbie has it all but the bun…if this was on a Poppy Seed Bun and Spiros swore at me more I’d think I was at the Wieners Circle. 3. Burgers – Seriosly not much to say other than really best Burgers west of the Don.So in summation, if you want Classic American Comfort food, the Food Cabbie really is a must…plus theres lots of parking.
Unpleasant Experience. Where to begin; I have been to Food Cabbie on 2 different occasions.Food- I would agree with the other review, great selection. My first time I ate at Food Cabbie I ordered the Carne Asada Burrito and my experience was that there was more tortilla than steak, and it tasted vey bland. Not to mention it was soaked in grease.I went back a second time because I work in the area and I think that everybody deserves a second chance. This time I ordered a burger he had on special and again it was very greasy. I asked for it to be cooked well done, and when biting into it, it was still pink. Some people enjoy this, but I do not. The bun was not fresh either..Staff; Cashier was friendly. But the cook who introduced himself to be the owner came off as very arrogant, and chatted more than he cooked, so I stood in line waiting for my food longer than I would have liked.I wouldn’t give this place a third chance.
