Lucullus is, by far, my favourite chinese bakery chain. This Chinese bakery chain has locations throughout the city. We find that their buns are the softest, their BBQ pork buns have the best filling, and their $5 boxed rice lunches are pretty good too! Sometimes they sell out of their most popular buns, though. cookingwithalison.com

Do not go expecting to get pineapple buns. You might be lucky if you are able to snag one. Otherwise their bakery has consistent good hong kong – Chinese style buns and their rice with spare ribs lunches are good value and tasty as well. Good egg tarts and hk style milk tea.

Last time we bought 3 red bean pineapple buns & 1 of them had SAND or really bad red beans inside. My mom needed to rinse her mouth few times!!! It was disgusting!!! But we will continue to get buns there but not red bean buns :S Steamed rice special was such a good deal, it came with a small hot drink. We tried all their steamed rice; they were all good & only $4.5!!! Where can u find such a good deal in Richmond Hill!!!

The BEST pineapple buns in town!. This bakery is so far the only place that knows how to make HK authentic pineapple buns (poh-loh bau) right! There has been several times that my family and I have stumbled upon fresh off the oven made pineapple buns and I swear, I want to eat 3 of those at once! There’s another bakery next door to this place that has cheaper buns but people still walk out of this store carrying bags and bags worth of chinese buns. This place has an exceptional amount of fillings for their buns that has fillings, unlike other places, it’s all just dough! Oh and this place also has very good HK style milk tea (Lai-cha). Highly recommended!PS. They have a second location at 14th Ave./Kennedy Ave. , next door to Fancy Chinese Restaurant. Yes, just as good and more seats to sit in and enjoy a fresh-off-the-oven pineapple buns! haha

Egg Tarts!. E: Lucullus Bakery offers a full range of Hong Kong-style Chinese pastries, cookies and breads, as well as whole cakes and refreshments. My co-worker suggested I visit this bakery once she heard how I enjoyed the egg custard tarts at Ding Tai Fung. She couldn’t recall or find the name of the place, but knew it is right next to a branch of Richmond Court. The afternoon I went to Lucullus Bakery they had two kinds of egg tarts. The traditional round ones and bigger oval ones. My co-worker suggested the former is slowly and carefully layered. They sell them by the threes and call them ‘Omega 3 egg tarts’ claiming the eggs they use are Omega 3 eggs. The egg tarts are nearly perfect. As promised, their tarts are fresh and were actually being brought out of the kitchen and onto the shelves as I walked in. Egg tarts are best when served piping hot and these were just that. One almost wants to eat them on the spot. They were brittle, flaky, soft, light and creamy. In fact, picking them might lead to breakage. If you are buying them for yourself consider using your hand to pick them up. That is how brittle they are in their state of freshness. Three smaller round tarts and three larger oval tarts cost $7.50. -A: This is a small clean Chinese bakery – and part of a chain – with three tables, shelves, a large fridge full of Western pastry and loads of people. It is essentially suited for take-out, but the tables were all occupied when I was there. They had Hong Kong-style tea. Music was playing in the background.-T: There are people milling about with trays and tongs picking up tarts, bread and cakes, and the space is small, but the line moves fast. The standard predicament of venturing into a ‘Chinese’ plaza or shopping area applies. Parking is tight, cars are circling on the prowl for spots and driving could be hazardous. As luck had it, I found a close-by parking spot.-S: The lady at the cash was friendly and suggested I pick another tart to round out the number and qualify for a free tart. Ah, yes most Chinese bakeries adhere to this offer. Annoyingly, they charge twenty-five cents for the use of a debit card. It is not the quarter, but the cheapness and the waste of time to explain this to customers and add a quarter to the price that is annoying. The ‘S’ section is also dedicated to ‘stuff,’ so not knowing what else to write I will wonder in writing why the bakery is named after a Roman General. Perhaps Lucullus ate well or perhaps he liked cakes and buns?
