2018/03/15Not one of our favourite meals. SWMBO was reluctant to try Maxim after I read her some of the menu, but I insisted. I should trust her instincts more often. Maxim apparently started out as a Chinese bakery that turned into a full service restaurant, which features a global gourmet dining menu. They have menu sections for appetizers, soups, salads, burgers & sandwiches, pasta & rice, entrees, curries, vegetarian dishes, and desserts. If you look at their website, you can see their regular menu, which is offered when you are seated. They also have an unpublished side menu with Chinese dishes. We decided to stick with their regular menu. Maybe that was our mistake. Not sure what we were thinking, since this was not an Italian restaurant, but essentially we ordered an Italian meal. We started out by sharing the Caesar Salad. The romaine has not been properly dried, and the dressing was a bit thin, making the salad a bit watery. SWBMO chose the Chicken Parmigiana, with linguini marinara. The breaded chicken was overly breaded, and and the marinara had big chucks of tomato and large pieces of onion that SWBMO found a bit odd. I really like eggplant, and opted for the Grilled Eggplant Parmesan. Usually this dish has thinly sliced eggplant, breaded and deep fried, so that the eggplant is cooked all the way through and soft. In this case there were thick slices of Chinese eggplant, partially grilled, so that the middle of each piece was still firm. Not my favourite preparation. Service was polite. There were very few diners, so service was fast.
Totally a disaster. Went for lunch. Ordered baked Pork Chop rice. Soup was barely warm. Worst one in my life, probably baked in the morning and reheated in a Microwave before serving. Waiter walking around asking customers to try their shrimp cocktail. Probably left behind from Christmas. I did not even bother to order their famous cakes despite the waiter came and asked. Will never go back. The one in North York is much better still but I believe it’s run by another owner, still the same family though I believe.
Delicious cake with excellent service. The cakes are pretty good!!!I really thought they were going to be super dry because they don’t seem busy on Wednesday today. We were in the restaurant like around 3pm something and it was time for coffee/cakes. Service, was excellent… really not as terrible as most people described it to be, and there is a handsome guy working over there with an excellent service :)Highly recommended for cakes! will come back for dinner for sure coz of romantic atmosphere over there!
Their cakes used to be good but not anymore. I had a slice of green tea cheesecake & a slice of their famous strawberry meringue. I’m very disappointed. The edge of the cheesecake was dry; probably out for a long time YUCK!!! I didn’t have the gust to chew down so it ended up into my green bin. For the meringue, too much cream, too little strawberry. I don’t think I will go back for their cakes.
Poor service -Servers are r…. Poor service-Servers are rude-Servers don’t even remember what client ordered-Servers take away plates without asking if we are done-Servers don’t even know what they are serving the customerJust brings a cake over not knowing what it is- manager is rude and doesn’t know what customer satisfaction isFood poor- angle hair pasta is mushy- steak is thin- duck breast taste like hanOverall the entire experience sucked. The only thing we looked forward to after the meal was the cake. But even that they can screw up and we ended up having a plastic piece in the cake. We didn’t get any apology from the manager just attitude. She just wanted to give me another piece I expressed my dislike and she said well what do u want. I didn’t respond and she walked away. And when I asked for the bill she still didn’t do anything to make customers feel better. And she thinks we will go back??? Yeah that’s a great way to retain clients. I will be posting my experience on any and all sites so everyone will know how bad this restaurant is and how they treat their customers. And to top off the cake that had a piece of plastic was still in your display case to sell.
