I do like this place, it is clean and the service is really good, the staff is super friendly. If I come here it is because I have a lobster craving. It is usually quite rammed and even with a reservation you end up waiting. On several occasions we have received complimentary desserts and I am not a fan of Chinese style pastries, but this made me change my mind. They brought out a few different things.. It came out piping hot and left me wanting more. One was a sticky rice ball covered with sesame seeds and filled with red bean! Yumm!!
Everyone comes here for lobster. 4,5,6 ways are possible depending on his big your critter is. Owner Ringo will sing the BeeGees on request. Always full with families, don’t forget to leave room for the complimentary desserts!
After finishing our dim sum, the first lobster dish arrived: Steamed lobster claws in garlic and scallion sauce with thin vermicelli noodles. It was very…well, garlicky, further whetting our appetite with its wonderful aroma. The girls liked the vermicelli noodles and I just loved the lobster! The next dish was stir-fried tail (my favorite part!!) with soy sauce. The tail meat was tender and juicy but the sauce was a bit on the salty side. What can you expect from a dish stir-fried in soy sauce, right? Still, it was lovely! The third dish was lobster legs deep fried in batter with chili and noodle crisps (my girls like crunchy food, so the crispy noodles were a hit). I was amazed that they found a way to prepare the legs. Crustacean legs typically frustrate people because their meat is hard to get at. The legs had a nice crunch, too, and were quite yummy with the chillies. At this time, we remembered that in Chinese dining, rice dishes usually came last. And since we normally eat our rice with viand, we saved some lobster to eat with the rice. True enough, the final dish was fried rice with lobster tomalley, which is the green paste found inside the cavity of the lobster. All the parts of the lobster were made into such delightful dishes that there was nothing left over but the shell! We were stuffed but reserved some space for dessert– a warm red bean soup. It was nice, though I would have preferred fruit to cleanse my palate wanderlustingmama.blogspot.com
Currently holds the record for the largest lobster ever consumed by my family. We had a whopping 9lb lobster. That would be singular. That is worth a 4 rating in my books to start. Great quality and service. This is not a budget place if finances are tight but the value for what you pay is good. Fond memories of that lobster… 😀
We were there for dinner 2 weeks ago. Four of us had a 6+ lb of lobster made into 4 dishes. It was pretty good so we decided to go back last Saturday. Once we sat down, the owner came over to sell us the more expensive king crab which we declined. Immediately he took out a 9+lb of lobster. We thought we would go all out this time and quench our lobster craving once and for all.The lobster was cooked alright. But the portion was definitely not anything close to 9 lb. It was more like a 6 lb. We finished everything. We saw that the table of 12 close by had a much bigger lobster and it was only 8 lb. I suspect that they cook according to the number of people and not what you order or pay for. We go to Fisherman Lobster Clubhouse Restaurant and Fishermans Wharf for lobster all the time. These restaurants are a bit far but much more honest with the weight of lobster charged. O Mei is close to where we live. O Meis dcor is grossly dated but if the food is good, I can live with that. I dont like the fact that were ripped off for over 3 lb ($25/lb) plus the hard selling owner really pressured one to eat all the expensive stuff. After he failed selling us king crabs, he tried to sell us geoduck. Its just very annoying. In a nutshell, well never go back to this restaurant. NEVER EVER! Last but not the least, I found a pubic hair in the dessert. Super disgusting!
Not again. Ordered food. The taker was clear and the delivery was quick, but the spare ribs were too hard for anyone to eat. The chow mein was so so. I called to ask for a better spare rib dish, but was told that they would give me a credit, and then I was told the credit would be applied next just before the man hung up.
Warning about prices…. I want to preface this review by saying that the food was decent. However, this is a word of caution.Note: Ask about prices prior to ordering! The menu doesn’t have prices even on the Chinese menu.I visited this restaurant with another person and the serving staff recommended that the two of us order the four-course King crab meal. We declined as it would be way too much food for two ladies. He then encouraged us to have the lobster which we declined. We finally ordered a fish (soon hock/marble goby) as well as a few other dishes. When we received the bill, we were shocked to discover that the steamed fish dish cost $70 alone! It was our mistake for not asking for the price. But this is an expensive mistake that I hope others do not repeat.I read another review on another site saying that two people got hit with bill for almost $400 because they were unaware.
