2018/04/21We are guessing that Oregano is owned by Paisanos on Willowdale, since that is the name that appeared on the credit card receipt and credit card statement. As a straight up comparison, we preferred the food at Paisanos. Having said that, Oregano is a nice, small Italian restaurant tucked away in an innocuous strip mall. When we went there for dinner on Saturday we were surprised that the place was mostly full, and that we got one of the last two tables. We started out by sharing the Insalata Oregano, which consisted of field greens and baby lettuce, topped with sun dried tomatoes, dressed with balsamic vinaigrette. It was crisp and fresh, an quite tart; almost too tart after I squeezed some fresh lemon on top. SWBMO resorted to one of her favourite Italian dishes, Chicken Parmigiana. The sauce was a bit runny and the chicken was a bit dry. The flavours were ok. I also stuck with an Italian favourite: Eggplant Parmigiana. I prefer my eggplant cooked just a touch more, but it was a satisfying dish. Service was a little bit slow, and our server apologized a couple of times because they were so busy.

Came to Oregano for lunch with my girlfriends. The place was empty, so the food came out fast. The server was super friendly and nice. Some dishes were great, like pizza and fish special. But things like fried calamari were way to oily and overfried, plus for $11 portion other places serve way more of those. Mussels didn’t test great either. That’s why I’m taking some stars out.

This place is a hidden gem. Food and service outstanding however I question why in this technical day and age there is not at least one TV to stream news and sports.
