Ruelo Patisserie is a small dessert and cafe spot in Times Square on Leslie and Highway 7. They serve a wide variety of cakes, teas, drinks, and the like. It’s rather small with only a few tables, but the place is real clean and has a nice decor and interior. We just came from dinner but the girlfriend loves her post-dinner cakes, so we stopped in to grab a slice. I ordered the Pina Colada, while Anna got a slice of Hazelnut cake. The Pina colada was a slice of cake that was coated in coconut flakes and stuffed with tiny pineapple chunks and a wafer. It was very good, but the inside was a tad too sweet. The hazelnut cake was the best as it was moist and the crust at the bottom was perfect. The place itself is located within that inner area so be sure to make your way in for the parking and such. The lady behind the counter was nice and the service quick. You can also preorder larger cakes for pickup. Definitely a place worth checking out. cheatdayeveryday.com
Pastry is quite outstanding. Small venue. Seats not very comfy for afternoon tea, tea selection was okay. But overall quite good value if you purchase the tea from groupon. Will also recommend other pastries not from the tea set. Macaron was okay with very intense food colouring, not much focusing on flavour.
I recently purchased some macarons from Ruelo a week or two back. They’re a little bit larger than other macs from around the city, but the price also reflects the cost. Going from anywhere from $2-3, each mac is separately priced depending on the flavor. They all had a crispy outershell with a chewy inside which was what I was after. None of the macs were overly sweet, but filling was still abundant with flavor. If you’re stopping in to grab some macarons, I highly suggest and recommend the Black Sesame as it’s completely different from the typical macaron flavors that you’d expect.
Ruelo Bakery. Never heard of the place before today went b/c it was advertised as participant of macaron day. They didn’t have any specials or giveaways even though they are specifically listed as a macaron day participant. Bakery is Very small, unprofessional and little to no selection on flavours. The macarons were disappointing to say the least however that didn’t stop the bakery from charging an arm and a leg for these sad macarons that have left a severely distasteful aftertaste in my mouth. Will never visit again and I do not recommend anyone looking for macarons to visit either. Website is misleading, makes you think your going to a fancy upscale bakery with large variety of sweets.
Unpleasant experiences. Been to ruelo a few times. There are a few workers and the boss who are extremely rude, unprofessional and poor mannered. I have experiences where I have waited at the store and there was only one worker in the back who told me there was more desserts. After waiting 30 minutes for the cashier to return, she tell me that the desserts are not ready. There are numerous times where no one picks up the phone and I cannot leave a voice message. Also, they have policies which are not stated from the beginning on their groupons, where you can only make reservations the day before. I emailed them earlier today, and when they finally pick up, it is after 6, where the receptionist is gone..This is absurd.. and then she goes on saying she doesn’t know when the next day available is and to call back again tomorrow. Although the dessert is decent, it is very unfortunate for the workers and the owner to be so unprofessional and ill-mannered.
Terrible Service and Overpriced. The staff who worked there are rude, unfriendly, and grumpy. I was trying to order a cake for a special occassion and I had quite a few questions. The staff there grew impatient with me and basically said everything is in the show book and I should not have that many questions. TERRIBLE SERVICE and I will never go back again.
Bad. Do you think $20 for 6 macaron worth?? If you ask how much, she will told you as list price or $20 for 6 and $40 for 12……You probably try 6.. but look close to the price mostly is 2.25, some are 3 each….will never go up to $20???She claim the box charge!! I pick without looking at the price… so if 2,25 @ will be 13.50….What am I going to do with the BOX!!!Butter Avenue cost 2.25@ too, if you buy 6, cost $13 only and with a nice box!!Beside taste better and creamy…rather than sweet and sticky!!
