Norling is one of my favourite restaurants in Toronto. I’m currently living elsewhere, and it’s one of my first stops when I’m back in town. It’s a favourite place to bring friends and family when I want to share something really wonderful with them. The food is like nothing I’ve had elsewhere — spicy but balanced and complex. The gyumaand tseykhatsaare my two favourite dishes. Gyuma is a blood sausage served in a delicious mixture of spices, onion and hot peppers. Tseykhatsais a dish of vegetable fritters, a bit like pakora, served in a fantastic spicy sauce. We always get an order of tingmo(steamed buns) to sop up the extra sauce. It’s also great served with the chilly pork ordered dry (instead of saucy). The momos are a solid choice here, but I usually prioritize the above items. I can’t speak to the Hakka menu, but the Tibetan items are some of the best food I’ve eaten anywhere. The service is always great at Norling; they’re friendly and take real pride in the food. The atmosphere is casual but nice. On top of everything, the prices are very reasonable. Dollar for dollar it’s the best meal you’ll get in Toronto.

Avoid! My friend and I were excited to get a Tibetan / Hakka place in the Parkdale neighborhood. Unfortunately, this experience was way below our expectations. Not only the food was below average but the service also was troublesome. The server barely understood english and we had a hard time understanding her. She was nice and kind but ordering and communicating with her took a lot out of us. Coming to food: Flavorless and oily!We ordered chilly chicken, tofu (that came with plain sticky rice) and chilly garlic noodles. We specifically checkdd with her if the tofu was going to be saucy enough to be eaten with noodles. She said yes! And hence we placed the order. The main dishes were kind of dry and did not have much sauce. Upon asking for some extra sauce, we are told and we would be charged extra for the sauce. Most of the restaurants would serve extra sauce or of courtesy. I’m not sure about the ingredients they are using.. Both of us felt sick later in the night and also in the morning!!I won’t return to this restaurant. There are better alternatives in the area. I recommend Himalayan Kitchen and Tibetan Kitchen. We came to this place because those two restaurants ran out of food!
