Bland food, great service. A group of four of us went there. Two of us had the lamb. One steak frites. One short ribs. The lamb was bland, with the Isreali couscous and dried figs, olives and pistachios. You couldn’t taste the figs or olives at all, they were blended into the sauce, but we asked the waitress for some additional figs. They were re-hydrated in stock, which made them taste like cardboard, so pointless. The short ribs came with a grainy mustard mash, but the mash just tasted like butter. (And because of the grainy mustard I didn’t order that dish).Basically I think the issue is seasoning. And they over spell out the menu and then under deliver. But our server was fabulous!
Okay. When I first went to the Westerly, I loved it, I thought the food was simple and good. Been there a couple of times now, and I just find it okay. I still have a problem with the cutlery – they look great, but with every bite of food came a metallic taste. Service was okay – it’s actually improved since we’ve been. Don’t think I would return.
Never going back. Our family of four went to the Westerly this evening. It was completely over-priced, with absolutely no charm.Cost us $165 and that’s without appetizers. Won’t be going back…
The Westerly on Roncesvalles. It was our wedding anniversary and we were anticipating a delightful dinner! The table and my wife’s chair were dirty and I had to sweep them with one of the serviettes. My plate had not been properly cleaned and when I told the maitre d’, he offered no apology simply replacing it with an equally dirty plate. The waitress did bring a new plate and also replaced the water stained knives with clean ones. My wife’s halibut was absolutely superb but my lamb chops were not only overcooked but dry and barely warm. I had ordered rare. The waitress was efficient, attentive and pleasant. We will not be returning to this beanery to pay $139 for mostly mediocre fare and poor management attitude. Roncesvalles has many far better establishments.
Absolutely love this place. I’ve been twice and the staff are friendly and gracious, service is excellent and the food was yummy both times. Great atmosphere. More than I like to spend on a regular night out but for special-ish occasions, this is my new go-to.
