Time machine!!Outside it’s 2017 on Rideau st, inside time stands still ……. is it 1950s? Or maybe the ’60s? Old school bakery with lunch counter and bar stools, insanely cheap day-old products on unadorned wooden shelves, memories of Jewsih family recipes…….it all comes together here.Try their bagels (cheese ones are best), a variety of cookies and home-made breads. They also have little sweet pockets called hamentaschen, should be tried as a unique cultural experience. The ladies who run the place care about their business and service is friendly. Go ahead and support this local shop!
Absolutely love the Rideau bakery! Their bread is absolutely to die for and so are their latkas! If you haven’t tried their salt sticks then I can not truely say hat you have lived yet and their sesame knots and egg bread are wonderful!
Friendly service, product mediocre. While the service was friendly, we were disappointed with the products we bought (especially the Florentines which were soggy, way too thick and tasted yeasty; nothing like a real Florentine). The bread was okay but not better than what you can buy at any grocery store.
Disappointed. I picked up a boston cream pie cake on Friday. Was told it was fresh. Served to guests that night and was surprised to find it had a mouldy taste. We threw the cake in the greenbin…$24 in the garbage.
Really bad cupcakes. Could’ve made them better myself.
The absolute beat marbella bread I’ve ever had.
On the other hand, there is the rideau bakery rye bread, which justifies the existence of this place. Om nom nom.14 Oct, 2011Having a sesame allergy in the home excludes us from enjoying much of the bread here. The fact that there is sesame on the baguette is strange. The one sweet treat I bought here, an apple cinnamon loaf, was dry and flavorless.
