We went because it had a rating of 4.4. It was good, very generous portions, better than average friendly staff, quick service. The food was initially very tasty but tended to peter out the more we ate. We would go again but I think that 4.4 is too high a rating. The front windows were really dirty.

Best shawarma in Ottawa. Not the greatest location, but worth the trip. Large with lots of seating. Good price. One platter is adequate for two adults. We return whenever we are looking for shawarma!

The food here is delicious but the service is horrendous. Counter staff is distracted and they don’t pay attention to your order. They are rude and often mess up simple requests like garlic sauce on the side! They are so frenzied and sloppy in preparing the food that it is frankly unappetizing. I’ve been disappointed in the service here for a long time, but kept going back because the food is so good. Unfortunately I won’t be returning because today’s experience was just too terrible.

OK- food here is awesome, OK? No problems with any of the dishes or their flavours. Top notch. I do find that the counter staff have an attitude however, and do not like the customer directing their plating regimen. I am NOT a fussy customer, but I don’t understand the standard ‘to go’ container plating regimen. Way too much humous, proportionately, not enough garlic, and woe be to you if you want them to ‘share’ the humous compartment With the garlic mayo. I was told he couldn’t do it. They really want to dollop the garlic onto the chicken or potatoes. I would prefer it separate, for control, but it causes them palpable grief. The humous and salad compartments should be reversed. The humous compartment (which they FILL), is twice the size of the salad compartment. Are you kidding me?… It’s great if one is all about the humous, but…Also, they charge $.50 extra surcharge to use debit on a $15 order, but not Visa or MasterCard! And there’s no notice about either until the handheld device asks for the authorization. It’s a good thing their food is good (or they would lose business), but you have to pay attention to, and be firm with the counter staff wrt your preferences.Having been here many times as a ‘takeout’ customer, I am certain that the ‘takeout’ portions are significantly smaller than an ‘eat in’ plate. By 25%. Check it out. Problem is, I enjoy red wine with this plate, so am stuck with carry-out.

The classic Ottawa shawarma experience. The Palace, as it’s lovingly called by its patrons serves up the tried and true Lebanese fast food Ottawa style. I recommend the chicken and beef shawarma sandwiches which are always good, just don’t be weird and put hummus on it. Potatoes with garlic sauce, and generous platters served with rice, hummus, potatoes, salad, turnips, and pickles are a very good deal. The falalef is good if you come right at the beginning of the lunch or dinner rush but never in between. They also make barbecued meats – chicken, beef, or kafta (ground beef) – but I’ve never ordered these because you have to wait for them. This place can be very busy, noisy, tables don’t get cleaned fast enough, and most problematically, they put hummus on your sandwich unless you tell them not to. As a Leb, this offends me 😉 but if you’ve had a few drinks in the market and you’re looking for a late night fix, this is the classic Ottawa choice.

Updated Review: with the new delivery services and I guess newer staff and change in seating arrangement kind of dissapointed On average waiting in line up to 35 mins (busy times) in the crowded waiting area (due to these new floor steps making the area smaller. I guess they are also busy doing the skip the dishes delivery that is why it is taking even longer. Lastly, the food has been lacking in taste (don’t hate me I love this place going there for over a decade but these changes which might be for the better are hurting their genuine customer experience) Older review: Best shawarma in town. No doubt! The only thing is sometimes when they are distracted you could end up with something you didn’t want in your sandwich. Dont fear the long lines, it usually goes by quick.Onto the food: best potatoes, the way they are made is just pure deliciousness, pair that up with the garlic sauce (I recommend a heavy duty gum as you will taste the garlic hours after). I usually always get the chicken (I love it when its a bit on the browner side since its much more flavourful). Ive had the beef before and its delicious however when I can taste the fat or rather feel its texture I dont like it.Prices are a bit higher then most places but two people can comfortably eat from 1 plate.

Most importantly, the beef shawarma wrap was delicious. Restaurant was also busy but service was very quick. All this combined with a reasonable price and I would definitely repeat!
