2019/03/23For lunch today we decided to try out the Jollibee in Scarborough. We had previously observed lineups in the parking lot for this location, but when we arrived after 11:30 am today, the lineup was only inside the front door, so we decided to wait. It was shortly after we got there that the lineup started to extend into the parking lot. While we lined up, one of the very friendly staff worked their way through the line, filling out orders on form with all the choices, and handing you the form, so that when you got to the counter, they just punched it in and confirmed your order. Since we were not familiar with the menu, we strained a bit to see the options over the counter from afar, and we were ready when it was our turn. While I ordered and paid the very friendly cashier, SWBMO went hunting for a table, since the dining room, which probably seats more than 70, was mostly full. When I paid I was handed a pager and our drinks, and joined SWMBO at the table she had found. We ordered two different combos, so that we could share and try out different things. The first combo was 1 pc Jolly Crispy Chicken with Jolly Spaghetti. The second was 3 pc Jolly Crispy Chicken plus two sides, and we chose Butter Corn and Mashed Potatoes. We also had the Pineapple drinks. The batter on the chicken was crispy, but didnt have a lot of flavour. Mind you, we had the regular batter, because we were not sure how much spice was in their spicy batter. The gravy that came with the meals was pleasant enough and added some flavour to the chicken. The mashed potatoes were smooth, and the flavour came from the same gravy as the chicken. The corn was plain, buttered corn. So for us the food was okay, and the staff were very friendly. Beyond that, not really sure why there are all the lineups.
I was pretty satisfied with the food at this location. Although it still took a while to wait in line, the wait times were much better than when it first opened, when it took at least an hour to get into the restaurant.Their chicken is nice and crispy. I would say it’s comparable to Popeyes chicken, although I find the spicy flavour doesn’t give enough flavour and kick. The peach mango pie was not bad, although it got pretty cold quickly. Would suggest eating it when it’s still warm. Definitely recommend getting the pineapple quencher; it is one of my favourite items on the menu.
