I have eaten at the Glen many times. I have found the deep fried haddock with the lite batter to be the best choice. Almost on every occasion the fish has been excellent. But my praise ends on this item. I try to cut down on the chips by taking half portion of fried sweet potato fries and a half portion of salad. The sweet potato fries are too thinly cut and as a consequence are saturated in fat and have virtually no sweet potato taste. The salad has always been absolutely atrocious, both pathetically small portion and matching quality. I am always looking for a better restaurant, and the only good option I have found is TheRoyal Canadian Legion supper on Friday evenings in Kanata which is just excellent, and the quality far exceeds any restaurantthat I have experienced in Ottawa.
The Glen has been around for over two decades now, so, as always in the restaurant world, it must be doing something right. On a typical Saturday evening its busy but the service is always quick and friendly. What the Glen always makes sure to do right is make great fish and chips probably the best in Ottawa in terms of traditional look and taste. Just be aware of what youre getting – deep fried, battered fish in one form or another! Dont look at the calorie count.Their menu stretches well beyond their signature dish, however: the usual recognizable Canadian pub fare is also available, as is a variety of salads and other Scottish dishes, including Haggis.Theres a great drinks menu too not too many pubs in Ottawa have Tennets lager or Newcastle Brown Ale on draught, but you’ll find it here. And any menu that includes Irn Bru must know its clientele!Quiz Nights at The Glen are often held for various fund-raising causes, and sometimes just for the community at large. Always well organized and sure to sell out fast, the events are something of an institution around the west end of Ottawa.Well worth the long drive every now and again for us; A visit to The Glen is always a good night out.
Service was friendly. The Western dip was nothing special. I ordered the Modern Shepherds Pie – it was delicious! Love the gravy! My one complaint with the meal is that its too much mush and your tongue gets bored halfway through. The nips – though tasty, aren’t a good pairing. Some sort of salad or vegetable medley would work better. S.O had burger & fries – fries were delish! The real show stopper was the Mango and berry infused cheesecake – so light and creamy! Outstanding! We’ll be back!
Amazing experience, as per usual! The Glen has just launched a new menu…. They still have all my faves, brought back some of the old favourites AND have some incredible new selections! The butter chicken is SO GOOD – I highly recommend trying it!!!!! Love going here, seeing the family who owns and operates it and enjoying great food and atmosphere. Excellent choice for any occasion!
Great food and service!. Had dinner at the Glen for the first time today and it won’t be the last. The fish and chips were great; the fish was flaky and flavourful. The other diners in my party were just as pleased. Every one of the serving staff was attentive. They didn’t wait for our assigned server to clear our table; they took care of it. The owner came by and made us feel welcome and her lovely Scottish accent was a treat.
Great time lots fun good food. My wife and I went to the Glen for dinner last week — we had Fish & Chips and it was delicious. Especially liked the fact we could choose the batter, the size and the tartar sauce. It was busy but the staff seemed to be able to keep up with the demand and we enjoyed the banter back and forth with our server who was very funny.I have recommended the restaurant to our friends and they have only had good words to say. Keep up the good work !
Awesome!. I have been here twice now and it’s a really a lovely place. The exterior and interior are very nice, the outside looks brand new and the interior has a cozy Scotish feel. The waitresses on both occasions were exceptional. They have some really nice beers, and the fish is awesome! You get a HUGE peice and the price is very reasonable. I also like that they offer you two different sides if you would like. They also have very good tartar sauce. Their salad is nice although the bowl it comes in is way too small but the plate is large enough to dump it out. Its very clean also! Overall an awesome place and I will continue to return!
