DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE !!!. Order the General Tao chicken…..or what we were told was chicken….easily and hands down one of the most sickening 3 bites of anything I have or will ever eat…. It was thrown directly into the garbage and we even gagged from the smell of the open plastic dish…. Rather then calling and asking for a credit I wanted my next phone call to be to the CFIA to have this place investigated….now we have to wait and hope whatever we ate doesn’t land us in the hospital with a parasitic infection. DO NOT order from here under any circumstances! I hope this place is run out of business or shutdown for health concerns!
So disappointed. This used to be my go-to place for my birthday chinese food. We don’t live in Hamilton so my husband has to drive a bit of a way to pick up our order. We ordered fried rice, chicken balls, soo guy with almonds and beef chow mein. It was horrible.First, there were maybe only three pieces of beef in the chow mein. And then, the rice was overcooked and had a burnt taste to it. The chicken balls were okay but the main problem was with our Soo guy. They forgot to include the gravy and almonds. And to make matters worse, when I called to complain, I said that we were basically owed another order of Soo Guy. I was told that the gravy only costs about 1.50 so why would they give me a credit for the whole order of Soo Guy. I told them that without the gravy all we had was tough, overcooked breaded chicken, and that’s not what we ordered. She still couldn’t understand why she should have to give us a credit for the whole 8.50. Are you serious!!
East Place: Genuine classic appeal. Decades ago, before thai, sushi and buffets, East Place defined what Hamilton oriental food was like. The decor and style of food hasn’t changed too much, with everything having an old-fashioned feel to it.Like Bronzies, the dcor is fashionably out of style, coming straight out of the early 80’s, complete with table cloths, those little placemats with the pictures of drinks on them you used to see and napkins folded into hats. And being retro, the food is Chinese Canadian (a term that I don’t think would have been used to describe it many years ago) with some of the dishes bringing back nostalgia while others feeling somewhat dated. What we ate was pretty good and well-priced for the amount you got. Those looking for a more modern experience should probably look elsewhere, while those looking for a Bronzies sort of place in Chinese form would have found their spot.
Tried this place out after reading the reviews. We ordered the schezuan chicken and hot and sour soup and it was the WORST Chinese food I have ever had In my life. The sauce was burnt and old chicken was used and the Soup was just a bowel or cornstarch and chicken broth. The place is quite dated and some seats smell like urine. Wish I had never experienced this place.
There’s no place like East Place. In my opinion, East Place isn’t just the best Chinese restaurant in Hamilton, it’s the ONLY Chinese restaurant in Hamilton. I have been frequenting the family owned restaurant on Centennial Parkway across from Eastgate Square for as long as I can remember (back to the high chair days). It was the place for my grandparents to go for a good meal and wine every Saturday night, my favourite place to go after tap dancing class when I was a kid (and show owner Nora what I learned), it’s the place I have spent countless New Years Eves and family celebrations, and the place that serves consomme soup with special healing powers when I’m sick. While a large part of East Place’s business comes in the form of pick-up and delivery (and that’s good too) nothing beats their Chinese comfort food served fresh from the kitchen by owners Steve and Nora. Recommended menu items include:Egg RollConsomme soup Hot and Sour Soup (my husband’s favourite)Cantonese ChowmeinPork Fried Rice Sweet and Sour Chicken BallsWoo Hip Har Hon Sui Won Ton
Nice surprise. My husband and I returned after being a few times many years ago. Nothing has changed. The decor is nice and clean. Service was excellent. Staff very friendly. It was good to have piping hot food made fresh instead of buffet food which is always lukeward and usually dried out. Will go back again whenever we want Chinese food. The only complaint we had was a minor one. It was a little cool in there and chilled the food pretty quickly so now that winter is here maybe they could jack up the heat a bit.
East Place/Great Place!. Excellent variety, friendly service, clean, comfortable environment (even the decore & music feel special like your near China-far from your kitchen home where the cooking ‘s done upon your request , without having to clean up) so get away from the routine everyday & treat yourself to an inexpensive yet delicious meal where every item tastes authentic (unlike some buffet style same old foods/ sitting around under lights with no nutritional value). We’ve been going there for 27 years now (every week) because once you’ve eaten the best, you’ll never bother going back to the rest!
