This is my favourite restaurant. It is small, so best to make reservations. The food is always good and a good selection. It is not a restaurant for children. Nice selection of wine, etc, but not sure what else they have.
My partner and I began our vacation by dining in London at the Blackfriars Bistro before flying out early the next morning.We ordered the avocado salsa calamari to share: what a unique combination that worked beautifully with a nuanced contrast of creamy avocado and not too over-fried or crispy calamari. My only question: why the fishy scent to the calamari? – I was hoping it was not a question of freshness, particularly since there was a sprinkling of lime pepper on top which might have overshadowed any possible age issues… but no worries; we both felt fine after the meal.As a main my partner ordered the mild jerk pork tenderloin since we were off to Jamaica the next day – a taste of things to come! What ended up coming, however, was the special of the day: a sweet pork, which was so delicious that we thought the best bet was to not say anything and just enjoy the meal. My meal was also delicious, a beef tenderloin in a yorkshire pudding cup – creative and yummy, but here’s the funny part. Just as we were finished our two meals, the server (with such a great sense of humour and kindness) approached our table to inform us that the chef had recognized the pork dish error, and would be be interested in having the jerk pork dish after-all? What!?? A second dinner? Sure!!!And we did. And it was brilliant.And the chef threw in a dessert to share as well.The beginnings of our holiday were fabulously spent at the Blackfriars, and we will be sure to return. Oh, did I mention that the staff take note of and fully support romantic couples? 🙂

Blackfriars Rules!. Best food, best service and best atmosphere. Never have had a disappointing meal in over 12 years. Great cross section of patrons – all there to enjoy London’s best run restaurant.
Cheesecake Appetizer. Have eaten here twice, and both times the experience was exceptional. The atmosphere is cozy, and a much more intimate setting than larger franchise restaurants. The menu is unique, and the specials are definitely worth trying out. I’ve enjoyed their fish recipes time and time again, everything was cooked to perfection, and there was ample use of vegetables and fruit IN the entree to balance out the meal and add some zing. Portion sizes were perfect, and a shared dessert among 2, with an entree fills the stomach perfectly. The waiters are friendly, albeit occasionally slow to refill the cups and remove dishes. The highlight of my visits is the restaurant specialty, their award winning appetizer, mushroom cheesecake. Definitely try it out!
‘Disappointing’. The waitress was the manager i believe. She was full of herself and stubborn. She mixed up my order, I went to her to complain but she blamed it on my boyfriend for the order being screwed up. She spoke in a very rude manner and then was frustrated that she screwed up. After I final receive my original order, it was bland and had no seasonings-not even salted. I was so disappointed. She didn’t even offer salt or pepper. Very poor service and staff. The place is smelly and dirty. I would never return.
Disappointing. Judging by the rave reviews, I expected something quite exceptional so we visited Blackfriars on my birthday. The bistro is small and seating is crowded and out in the middle of the floor. Tables, seating and dining utensils are cheap and sometimes plastic. The staff were busy and distracted. We received our drinks early, so they were gone by the time food arrived, and didn’t receive our second beverage order until well after the meal had ended. The food was mediocre at best, overcooked, and expensive for the quality. We left hungry – and extremely disappointed for the money we’d spent.
