Here’s a place that has gone on a steep path to being one of the worst restaurants in Stratford. Once known for its good food and cheeses, it is now a place that serves up not only ridiculously smaller portions with an increased price tag, but sub-par food quality. A restaurant cannot brag about how excellent their quiche $24 is and then serve up something that tastes and feels like it came out of the deep freezer. The decrease in food quality has turned many past customers to vow never to eat there again. I suggest trying the other restaurants around town.
During our Day in Stratford, we stopped by Monforte on Wellington for a late afternoon snack. Our original plan was to visit Montorte Dairy but after having some beers down the street at Black Swan Brewing, we decided to have a quick snack.Monforte is located near Market Square across from City Hall. The interior is homey and cozy. They also have a patio at the back if you want to enjoy the outdoor. Menu is simple but I know why I am here for: Cheese Please :)I can’t believe I enjoyed Nika so much on my Cheese and Charchterie Plate ($18) that I ended up getting a small tub home. Nika is a cream cheese made with Pasteurized Sheep Milk, Garlic Scapes, Lavender and Herb de Provance. Most items on the menu are local sourced and they also sells some of the products in the restaurant and of course Monforte dairy products too! When I return, I need to try Water Buffalo Ice Cream Affogato…
Dishes are fresh and made with local seasonal products. Menu changes every few weeks and keeps the restaurant fresh with new experiences. Cheeses are made fresh at Monforte’s own dairy.
