On our visits to Stratford over the past four years, we have dined at this establishment. ‘Till this visit, the food and service were Par Excellence. My companion and I ordered the Steak Frite lunch meal ($28) which cam with Jus de vin and frites. The plate did arrive full with frites, and a 7 oz. serving of steak that was cooked to perfection. My beef (pardon the pun ) was that at minimum 50% of each of our portions was fat!We pointed this out to the server Alaina, who simply laughed it off. A further issue was local craft beer selection. I was told Black Swan Wheat Ale was sour. When I inquired whether it was a bitter, I was told yes… it was far from a bitter. Perhaps our server could have suggested a sampler to try?A huge disappointment after having enjoyed so many excellent lunches there in the past. Interestingly, many of the positive reviews were from an earlier period. Wonder whether the chef has changed?

I went here with a few friends ( Maria) before a play at Stratford. BTW- A Night of Music isn’t worth your time in my opinion.Atmosphere- The inside looks lovely bit we chose to sit on the patio. I think this is one of the nicest patios in Stratford. However, during a large part of our dinner it had a bus blocking our view.Service- Loved our waitress. She was quick, friendly and had a great sense of hmour. I am sorry i didn’t get her name to print.Food- We had the following- 1) Plilly steak won ton nauchos- report was good. I tasted the won tons and I dont think i would like the heaviness of them. i prefer corn chips. there were quite a bit of toppings and the late was huge. 2) Roasted red pepper and goat cheese soup- very nice. 3) mixed greens salad- it was ok. Dressing was also just ok. 4) Caesar salad- I would not order this again. The dressing was not great and there was far too much of it on it. 5) rainbow trout- excellent. the vegetables that came with it were also done to perfection. 6) mushroom risotto- bland. My friend asked if it could be in a rose sauce instead of cream and was denied because it was a large crowd. ( rainbow trout had a red sauce) I dont think it would have been difficult to add a bit of sauce to the dish. The result was a bland dish that my friend peppered to make it better. 7) curry with pineapple mussels- Yum! Loved the sauce. I had to ask for bread ( it should come with) to sop up the sauce ( My friend shared bread for her soup – shuld also come with) Dessert was -1)pavlova- I make pavlova myself so i am a little critical- It looks amazing. However, I like the actual pavlova to be firmer. This is like a huge meringue like on top of lemon meringue pie. The lemon and raspberry sauces were good with it. 2) caramel chocolate cheesecake with pecans- excellent.Impression- I would go back for the patio and a few of the dishes. However, there are so many dishes needing to be fixed i would not recommend this to everyone.

Beet Salad at the Parlour. I loved the beet salad at the Parlour when we had ordered it on another visit to the restaurant but the last time I ordered it they were skimpy with the goat cheese and the dressing. I did tell the waiter who said he would pass the information along to the chef. I wouldn’t go after hours for the bar menu however the fish and chips on their daily menu are good.

The Parlour patio. Great upper patio and particularly enjoyed the cheese tray appetizer and the selection of Niagara wines.

Expected Better. With such good reviews on many sites I expected better. Came to Stratford to see a show, walked to the Parlour where we did not have reservations, the host was very perturbed, we would have gone elsewhere if they said they were full, we were seated and the restaurant was never more then a 1/3 full while we were there. The server never told us there were specials and considering the limited menu would have been nice to know. Server brought me the wrong drink and even when I pointed it out nothing was done, but the lady at the next table who I believe got my cocktail was given a replacement. I ordered the red curry duck as my main; it was a soup with raw vegetables, a braised duck leg which the meat must have fallen off the bone in the kitchen because it looked like somebody had already been gnawing at it. It was topped with raw sprouts to hide the meatless bone. When the server came to ask us how things were we all looked at each trying to nicely form a well worded response but I guess we took too long and she walked away. I had barely touched my dinner and she never clued in that maybe there was a problem and never stuck around to get a response. I only come to Stratford a couple times a year and try a different restaurant each time; have never been so disappointed with a restaurant.

Menu a bit disappointing. This has been by far my favourite restaurant in Stratford for years and years however recently they changed the menu and it is a bit limited and weird. It’s still great food however I will wait until they change the menu again before I return. Bring back the general tsao’s chicken 🙂
