What a find. We came here not knowing anything about the restaurant and chanced to be there for their once-a-month jazz night. What a treat of an evening. The Mexican quartet was superb, transforming the small space into a magical, lyrical sanctuary. The set menu for the evening offered a $45 prix fixe menu with several options–very reasonable for a 3 course meal. They boast that they offer the best mojitos in town; our friend from New Mexico proclaimed that to be true–and marvelled at the food’s authenticity while we all thoroughly enjoyed the well-prepared, delicious food. Service was efficient and friendly and dishes arrived promptly.

So good, so expensive, but soooo worth it! I had the Serrano wrapped scallops and the lamb shank, and I had to stop myself from licking the plate both times. Absolutely delicious food and really nice atmosphere. The 3 oz glass of house wine is a nice option for the designated driver. My parents ordered the beef tenderloin and shrimp gnocchi, and both were amazing. It the gnocchi was out of this world! If you are ready to shell out the big bucks this place is great!

My friend and I decided to come here for their Winterlicious lunch menu. We got there right on time for our 11:30am reservation. The place was empty at first but quickly filled up as noon time arrived. Their chef is from Cuba and was influenced by his grandmother’s recipes. They have Winterliciouslunches for $23 that includes an appetizer, main entree, and dessert. I noticed they also have live Jazz acts on special nights during dinner time. All the showtimes are posted on their website. For the appetizer I ordered the Poblano (stuffed peppers w/black beans, Corn Meal, Onion, and Cheese). It was really unique and the ingredients really blended well with the melted cheese. For the main, I chose the Arepa which is a crispy corn cake topped with eggplant and mushrooms. The texture of the corn cake meshed with the eggplant, mushrooms, and spinach creating an interesting vegetarian dish. Finally, I awaited anxiously for the Mexican Cannoli. It was excellent as the peanut butter stuffing did not over power the pastry itself. Truly a delight. My friend ordered their Fabada soup, Empananada (Stuff beef shank pastry), and Guava Bread Pudding. All three were nicely done with the Guava Bread Pudding really standing out from the rest. Service and presentation was excellent throughout.

Based on an earlier experience during Summerlicious, I decided to be taken here to be treated for my 67th birthday. Both my treater and me were disappointed, especially since I had praised the place and its cuisine. First off, the a/c was not on when we arrived and it was uncomfortable inside on a 24 C day. The lemon and lime that had been placed on our table were rotting. Ugh. My gin martini was lukewarm, and the olives on a stick were placed inside the martini instead of along the side giving the drink an oil slick. For $10, this presentation is unacceptable. Her appetizer and both entrees arrived with identical garnishing…..so wrong!!! We both ordered the sirloin which was tough and over-cooked, though I asked for it to be medium-rare.A 6 oz. glass of merlot cost $12. Way over-priced for a so-so wine.Dessert was good–we had the mango option.Based on today’s experience I would not recommend Bloom. For what we had, it is overall over-priced and the presentation of everything is seriously wanting. $86 later…..we feel seriously ripped off.

The food at Bloom is out of this world, with menu options that aren’t so typical of the Toronto food scene. The chef infuses his creative Latin American culture into the menu and really takes the time with each of his dishes. I’ve never once had a bad experience here. And let’s not forget to mention that for the quality, the price is amazing! Definitely one of my favourite places in Bloor West Village. fashionfoodflair.com

Good food but service lacking. I was at Bloom last night with two friends, having made a reservation the day before. When we arrived, we didn’t have a table waiting for us. Our waiter explained that other groups had turned up with more people, so what could they be expected to do? It also made no sense, as the tables did not appear to be overflowing – most were tables of two, and one table had an extra seat at the end. In the end some tables were rearranged to accommodate us, but it was an uncomfortable start to the evening – almost as if we were an intrusion. The food was good, but the service was very slow. Our server did add a complimentary appetizer, but I can’t shake our initial greeting, which did not make us feel welcome – rather just the opposite.
