Fabulous food! shame about a couple of the waitress’s :(. We love the food and some of the staff at Bryden’s are absolutely lovely and that’s what brings us back but sadly there are a couple of the waitress’s that make our experience less than pleasant. We are always friendly but in return are met with pouty, no smiles, minimal service. Sometimes we feel really welcome there …a few of the staff are fabulous and friendly…but the evenings that certain characters are working, we leave with a slight case of indigestion 🙁
Worst service EVER. We were astonished by the poor service we experienced on Friday night. I have never experienced such rude wait staff. The following occurred in the 30 minutes we were at Bryden’s on Friday September 27th, 2013. We left without eating because the waitress was so rude.1) We were told we were not allowed to sit on the patio as it would fill the patio to capacity and those patrons inside the bar whom wanted to come out to smoke would not be able to.2) I ordered a Pumpkin Saison, and accidentally called it an Ale in which the waitress rudely told me how incorrect I was.3) We knew some of the people on the patio, one of them came in to talk to our party of five, and the waitress gave us a lesson on how we are expected to stay at our table, we were not welcome to go outside, nor were people from the patio welcome to come inside to talk to us. Seemed incongruent when we were not allowed to sit outside because the smokers inside needed space out there to smoke?4) My husband put his beer down on a table beside us, and went to the bar to pay for his beer (as we had already decided that we were not staying for food because the waitress was SO RUDE!). He asked the people at the table if he could do so, they were cool with it. It wasn’t even really a table, it was a coffee table with a couch. The waitress came over and made a big deal about how we were not allowed to put anything on other peoples tables. It was So Odd.5) The Pumpkin Saison was served warm, not cellar temperature in which it should be served, nor was it cold. It was much too warm. It tasted terrible. We ended up leaving our beers without drinking them.6) The waitress loudly and in a disrespectful voice told the table next to us that she was sorry that it took her a few minutes to get to them as the bar had be completely overwhelmed by the large party that was taking over their patio (the group of people we were friends with). It was such a crazy and weird experience to have. My party of 5 had never felt so unwelcome in a restaurant before. It is really difficult to understand why the staff would not want to provide good service and work for their tip.I will never go there again, and I will be certain to tell people how impolite and insulting the staff is.
Great Value. My friend and I split a few apps and made it out of Bryden’s full and for a little over $8! The sweet potato fries were really good and served with a blueberry sauce… which at first we were apprehensive about but it turned out really good! The nachos were not as spectacular as the other reviewers seem to think… but they were decent. The atmosphere was interesting… it is a little dark in the dining area and the table and chairs are mismatched which lends to it’s unique charm. Overall, it is a good place to kick back with friends at the end of a long day.
Not what I was expecting…. It is a really small restaurant and we set a reso for 10 people at 6. They set us up for 8 people and seemed unhappy to add the extra table. They also said they don’t like to take reservations for more than 8 people… why wouldn’t you want to guarantee 10 paying customers? Anyways the menu wasn’t that great looking and I ended up choosing the steak sandwich. When she brought it she had accidentally punched in potato salad instead and told me I could have that plus the French Onion soup I ordered. Unfortunately both of those sides were very bad tasting. I’m a HUGE french onion soup lover and this was by far the worst I’ve ever tasted… My cousin ordered the burger with normal bacon instead of Peameal and the gave her peameal anyways. Not a huge deal…The drinks were good – they did have a great selection. We also had yummy nachos to start. I should also note that it stated it was a ‘family friendly’ restaurant so we brought our 3 year old niece along and while we were there, around 7 pm, there was a girl high out of her mind being dragged to the bathroom by a guy and they started fighting in the tiny hallway near our table until she passed out into an arcade game. The staff said NOTHING and didn’t even kick her out. She continued drinking on the patio… unbelievable.
Excellent food at affordable prices! When my boyfriend and I walked in, we were a tad apprehensive. It was dark, had random decor and there were some loud patrons. However, our food was incredible! I had the cheese steak cooked to perfection with the delicious greens with housemade berry-balsamic dressing and my boyfriend had the jerk chicken wrap with fries – fries were very crispy and yummy. Will definitely return!
The best Vegetarian Nachos. Recently, I ordered the Vegetarion Nachos and it was the best I’ve ever tasted. The service is still mediocre. The patio could use more umbrellas to create more shade.
Our favourite place. My wife and I have been going to Bryden’s for a few years. The food is good, the beer selection is one of Toronto’s best, the staff is friendly and attentive and it’s just a couple of blocks away from us. We love this pub!
