I’ve been meaning to visit this place but they close so early on weekdays! Since they are a roastery I thought I’d opt for coffee instead of my usual latte (it’s mainly for benchmarking purposes). I ordered the Sumatra which is their dark roast. I saw that they had a fresh brew so I asked for the fresh brew (which just finished and I watched her pour it for another customer), but the baristas poured my coffee from the old pot! Pretty disappointed but I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it. Also got a butter tart to pair. Coffee was crazy bitter, like way more bitter than any Starbucks dark brew that I’ve ever tasted. I typically take my coffee black to taste the flavour. The bitterness was so overwhelming that I couldn’t taste anything else. Thankfully I had the butter tart to help balance out my palette. I don’t waste coffee, so I ended up putting a lot of cream and sugar in. Cause you know, any coffee will taste great with cream and sugar. I’m reluctant to give it a super bad score though, since this place seems to have a lot of potential. Sounds like they have good breakfast, lunch and pastry options, and I’ve yet to try their latte. They had a lot of seating and it seems like a good neighbourhood place to hang out at.

So I haven’t had anything to eat here, but I do like the coffee. All roasted in house, the coffee is very good. I can’t comment on the management, because every time I’ve been there, I’ve been served promptly. They seem to know the difference between lattes and cappuccinos. A good local spot for coffee. I’m keen to try the Jamaican Blue!

The world needs more of those…. Honest and competent people (owners) delivering their expertise for the love of it! Great coffee, great people, and great spot to meet (inside or outside).

Great Beans. This was the first Toronto bean roaster. They have been doing it for a long time. Great mix of coffees and teas. Some nice cakes and cookies. If you want to support the independents this is a great choice. Very close to Jane subway. Great place to meet and have a coffee.
