Just came here for a drink, and I realize this isn’t what they specialize in, but I got their sangria. They only did glasses, but it was a really good sangria. Had strong peach flavours, which was great. Service was about average, can’t complain there. A good spot to grab a drink, but I can’t really speak on their beer, since I didn’t try it.
I have been here twice and both times I haven’t had a chance to try their food because they don’t know how to manage the restaurant. The last time, I put my name down for a table of 6. Waited for 40 mins while open tables sat empty on the top level even though they were serving other groups up there. Asked why it was taking so long, we were told we’d be the next table. Hostess didnt apologize or anything and clearly didnt care. After another 20 minutes of waiting we finally left and I’m not going back again. They didn’t have the courtesy to seat us at empty tables so they lost our business.
Went to Craft Beer as a group of 8, we have been together for years for birthday evenings. Been to many, many restaurants in Ottawa. First, we reserved a table, but were put right at the front door on a very quiet night, lots of free tables in nice quiet spaces, asked to be moved, but this was a no-go according to the hostess, first strike. We had to ask for a waitress after more that 20 minutes of sitting with no one in sight, second strike. Ordering drinks took another 22 minutes (actually timed it on the iPhones), how anyone can get inebriated here is beyond us, third strike. Food was good, not great or excellent, to be expected for bar food, but it took 4 waitresses to bring it to us with almost 30 minutes from the first to the last meal -fourth strike. Ordering more drinks during the meal was PAINFUL -had to ask three times to get a beer -fifth strike. Now, trying to get the bills was a exercise in ultimate patience, we were told the person celebrating their birthday would have a discount equal to their age -don’t EVER, EVER, BUT NEVER ask for this -you will wait almost until the restaurant closes to get your bill. We asked the waitress (3 times), then the manager AND the hostess for the bill, took so long, we almost left without paying, we were getting gray hair -sixth strike. When you work hard and scrape to earn a living and then go out with good friends to a restaurant, you expect some level of service. Some nights can be problematic for one or two things due to short staff, or technical problems, but our experience was horrendous. All 8 of us were fed up, decided to walk 3 minutes down the causeway to a competitor for after dinner drinks and desert. At this new restaurant, we got a fantastic table outside right away, the waitress greeted us in less than 1 minute of sitting, brought us drinks in about 3 minutes (and kept them coming as fast as we wanted them), the deserts were served almost instantly and HOT. Our bills were available the moment we asked for them. Craft Beer Market has a LOT (LOT, LOT, LOT) to make up for after having to fork out more that $700.00 for our combined bills. Never going back or recommending it to family, friends or colleagues. Your mileage may vary.
Been here twice and on both occasions the beer and food has been great. Definitely the older crowd which is good if you want to avoid the craziness of the byward market and the students. I really liked the service too as the waitresses were pretty attentive and relatively fast even though the place can get completely packed on weekends. One recommendation is the Trappist beer which is 10 percent but super tasty so that you don’t even notice the alcohol content. It’s worth coming to if you want a quick beer to catch up with friends.
I tried out Craft with a friend for her birthday tonight, we arrived at 6:30pm. Atmosphere is great, good beer selection and fairly good service. The food however, was terribly disappointing. I ordered the fish tacos by recommendation from my server. The minuscule portions of fish were burnt, and they were packed with dry, flavourless coleslaw. The fish portions were literally the length of my (small) thumb, and less than a centimetre thick (see photo below). Total waste of $15. My friend ordered the ice cream sandwich and the cookies were nearly raw, flavourless, and tasted like shortbread. Either the chef, or the menu needs some tweaking. The restaurant was also really dark and incredibly loud. My friend was sitting beside me and we had to yell at one another to talk.
Visited last night with a friend. Dined on the grilled cheese and bacon sandwich with an upgraded side of poutine. Sandwich was nice but could be made better with thicker bread – overall an ooey gooey cheesy delight; side of homemade ketchup was too vinegary. As for poutine, first few bites were great and then overwhelmed with taste of salt .Ambience is not my style with overly loud music making it difficult to have a conversation at 6:30pm.
GOOD NEW PLACE WE THOUGHT THE FIRST TIME BUT LAST NIGHT STOPPED AND WAS DISAPPOINTED. NOT WITH TASTE BUT PORTIONS COMPARED TO PRICE. LOCAL BEER OVER $6 PLUS TAX FOR ONLY 11 OZ .THE FISH TACOS HAVE SMALLEST AMOUNT OF FISH WE HAVE EXPERIENCED. THOUGHT WE WOULD TRY THE POUTINE SINCE IT WAS $13 expected decent amount but again left us really feeling ripped off. THIS PLACE IS NEW AND SHOULD DO WELL BUT IF THEY KEEP PRICES HIGH WITH SMALL PORTIONS THEY MAY NOT MAKE IT. WAITRESS WAS ASKED HOW MANY OZ THE BEER WAS A WAS DIDN’T KNOW AND WAS INSULTED WITH THE QUESTION.
