Flippers impresses me every time. I do not go more than once a year but every time I come out satisfied. First, they treat my grandmother like gold. Second, they have oysters. And even at a buck a shuck they were super fresh and gone in no time. Handmade cocktail sauce with sharp horseradish and a touch of sweet, extra pickled horseradish, and plenty of lemons on the side. Cocktail Shrimp are jumbo and huge, cooked to perfection and chilled. Served with cocktail sauce. Everything on the menu looks good. Specialty is seafood and you are in good hands . Mains were moules et frites, mahi mahi and artic char. The mussels were plump and delicious, the sauce garlicky. Fries like a chip truck, with salt and a mist of vinegar. Lots of little crunchy ones, yum! Mahi mahi grilled and artic char pan fried perfectly. Fresh veggies and rice round out the fish dishes. Granny had enough left over for lunch tomorrow, and we didn’t have room for dessert. Service was on point. Top notch. $130 for three with drinks tax tip. We will be back.

The bread with olive oil was very mediocre,cold and tasteless. My son had the Arctic char and was not impressed. It was breaded and dry. I had the jumbo grilled shrimp that were extremely salty. These meals took over an hour to come to the table and were not great. The calamari appetizer was good. Over the last few years I have been here I came in for appetizers only and it was always good.Tonight was to have been a special birthday celebration. However because of this experience tonight I will not come back. Overpriced and not worth the wait.
Wonderful Ambience, Great Staff, Fine Food. I have been eating regularly at Flippers during the past six years. Although I enjoy the main fish items – various combinations of nicely prepared haddock, salmon and others, I usually choose the smaller plates – tasty spring rolls with shrimp, blue crab cakes, spicy tuna tartare, fresh mussels in a leek sauce, and more. When I’m in need of comfort food, I order fettuccini or linguini with smoked salmon in a cream sauce. The gazpacho is terrific. However, it is the tuna tartare and the mussels that are my favorites.Usually I eat at the splendid copper-covered bar – a work of art that contributes to the wonderful ambiance that characterizes Flippers. Being seated at the bar has given me the opportunity to both observe the overall operations, and to get to know the great staff who keep Flippers operating so smoothly. These people are all long time servers at Flippers who know their food and wines, and know how to serve smoothly and unobtrusively: they are the glue that holds Flippers operations together.Prices are moderate, and the food is healthier that that offered at by the many other restaurants that I visit.
We work in the neighbourhood and are big fans of Von’s which has a really great ambiance and a terrifically priced lunch. The burger is my fave in the city.So we though we should share our dollars with the upstairs Flippers – owned by the same people.On the Fri afternoon we visited it was much less busy than its downstairs sister. The ambiance is nice. It has a great rustic feel to it and the bar is quite beautiful. It would be a lovely room at night.I had the halibut and chips and my partner had the chowder and the seafood spring rolls. He pronounced them both very good. My fish was very good though the batter a tad greasy. But perfect sized portions and those greaT Von’s fries.It’s a tad more expensive than Von’s – but a 40 dollar lunch of this calibre is not bad. Try pulling that off at a pub.Recommended.
Good service. My guest and I both ordered the halibut with the lobster sauce. The fish was dry and tasteless and the side dish was comprised of 1 small piece of broccoli and cauliflower. All that for 26$for the dish, very poor quality/ price. Would not go back.
So turned off!!!. Just tried to book my mom’s 65th birthday celebration there. It’s been her favorite restaurant for years, and my parents have been loyal customers.I was told they couldn’t accommodate more than 25 ppl, cause then they would have to turn ppl away. That is essentially what just happened! It would have been a Wednesday evening, not a busy Friday or Saturday night!It doesn’t matter if your food is good, this is horrible business!!!!
Everyone I take here likes it. What’s not to like? Tasty fresh seafood, reasonable prices (especially at lunch), a pretty room, and pleasant service.Update: Friends of ours arranged a party of 8 to celebrate New Year’s Eve at Flipper’s on Dec.31/14. We all had a wonderful time. Great ambiance, good service, excellent dishes (especially the crab bisque, the seafood hot pot, and the lemon mousse meringue cake), and a good wine selection. The prices were fairly reasonable for a New Year’s Eve dinner. I’m betting that this is where we’ll all spend next New Year’s Eve.
