I LOVE THIS BAR!Went in the other night for a drink and a bite of some pub grub with the misses, absolutely amazing. We stayed much later than expected because of the music. The Telegrams. The sound was perfect, not sure who the sound guy was but they totally nailed it. Atmosphere is great, excellent beer selection. Will be going back again for sure.Try the Gatineau Hipster, a little messy, but oh boy is it worth it.
Food good, service meh. Went for after work beers. Food was tasty and inexpensive. Beer was beer: decent selection. The waitress was nice to my wife and son but super bitchy to my friends right off the mark. Wtf.Other reviewers are on the mark. A large crowd of elderly regulars competing with a smaller crowd of young people and young bands playing some good music. Its a really strained dynamic and I felt uncomfortable the whole time. Next time I’ll find somewhere where they serve the beer without the attitude. I won’t be back…
Decent Brunch. Me and some friends have been here twice for brunch. The first time I had the huevos rancheros and was not impressed, but they won me over this morning with the Cali Benny. My friends had the Breakfast BLT and the Breakfast Club, both were delicious. Service was alright, food was cheap, and was ready fast. Not the best brunch, but definitely not bad.
Poor breakfast. We decided to go for brunch here last week but were very disappointed with the food. My tea was lukewarm and waited awhile to get milk with it. The homefries were dry and dark & over cooked, not real potatoes obviously (frozen perhaps?) and the omelette was a disc shaped form and not a great variety of options to choose from for omelettes either. Not to many places in the city seem offer a good tasty breakfast vegetable stir-fry on the menu either …..not impressed with the breakfast here at all.
Nicely Surprised. I just recently discovered Irene’s and have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Very good pub food, with extra attention to presentation which is a nice touch. The Poutine is incredibly good, seems that other places have forgotten that Poutine uses REAL CURDS, not shredded cheese! Seem to have a lot going on music-wise which isn’t necessarily my thing but they have obviously found their niche and are serving it well.Daily soup and sandwich specials, no drink specials – just how it should be done. Lots of beers on tap.Well done Irene’s Pub!
Afternoon beers. We visited this little joint on a Monday afternoon (we were lucky to be off work) for a pint and some lunch. They have a great draft beer list (about 12 taps, lots of local brews too) with a feature tap that changes regularly. The bartender looked rather unimpressed that we walked in, but he warmed up after a little while.. I don’t know what was up with that – maybe an off day.I had the Southwest Chicken Wrap ($10) – pretty normal: chicken, cheese, lettuce, spicy mayo and the FRIES – they were unreal. The next best thing to a chip stand that you’re gonna find in February. My guest had the chili and chips ($9) which was also pretty standard. Both were super tasty. They have a ton of live music and I’d be interested to go back at night but it’s not on my priority list.
