I do not understand, the rating for this place was only a 3 . We were 6 of us and everyone rated this place higher. The food excellent the presentation very good. The service excellent cannot ask for better. Our experience was very very good
The cocktails were refreshing on a late Summer’s evening. The appetizers and in house bread were tasty and set the stage for the main courses. Our table of four was split evenly between the trout and duck leg which was delightful in taste and generous in portion ( not always do the two come together).
I was pleasantly surprised by The Rowan! This is exactly the type of restaurant that was needed in the Glebe! The decor is very trendy, cool, and colourful, so that made a great first impression. The service throughout the evening was quick, attentive, and very friendly. My drink (The Beautiful Fool) was delicious, (but too small for a $9 cocktail in my opinion). My meal was the Trout Filet and it was fantastic. It looked beautiful, the flavours were interesting, and it was a big enough serving to fill me up quite well. I got the sticky toffee pudding for dessert, which was delicious and it had no raisins, which I was very relieved about.Very happy with The Rowan and I will definitely be going back!
What can I say about The Rowan. One of a few restaurants that take reservations for brunch. Service was amazing. Steph was very attentive and gave some great suggestions. First, when you start off with such a high quality coffee it sets up for a great meal. I had the Oxtail Terrine. I am a big fan of oxtail but the way this was made blew my mind. They braise the oxtail and then pull it apart only to form it into a Burger shape. The flavor from the oxtail was outstanding. Complimented by their chips which is just WOW. This was a great experience from start to finish. Absolutely love this place and will be back soon.
I stopped by The Rowan for brunch because our usual place was closed at the time, and I’m glad it was! The Rowan’s brunch is different from the usual brunch fare, and offered new flavours for a very reasonable price. The service was good and I was very satisfied with my meal. I will definitely be returning again!
My wife and I thought this might be a nice place to try for a romantic dinner. First, it’s not that romantic, but that was our hope, not expectation, so consider that to start if you’re looking for a sexy, dark lounge to spend time with your spouse (just noticed the ‘casual dining’ tag above). The atmosphere was modern and befitting of a place where you might have a casual cocktail. Speaking of cocktails, they have a small selection of standard cocktails with the ridiculous price norm by Ottawa standards – $9 – $12. Not nearly as inventive here as, say, Moonroom’s concoctions or El Camino’s. Not its fault, nor a bright point either. Our appetizer – the mackerel – was chopped and lost in a mayo-based sauce. The accompanied thin-breads were decent and the portion was too, but I can’t say I’d order it again. Our mains – the steak @$25 and the pork pie @$22 were also heavily dependent on their accompanying sauces – a pretty tasty, but overly sweet sauce on the steak (poured directly on top to our surprise), and what tasted like store-bought dijon and HP for the pork pie. The pork pie and steak were nicely cooked and consistent in their texture, but lacking a lot of flavour on their own. The quality of the pie’s pastry was also only average. In total, my wife had an Old Fashion, a glass of average-priced wine, the app, and her main. I had my main, shared the app, 2 cocktails and a glass of wine. The bill was pretty steep at about $130 before tip. Not really a price in sync with casual dining, IMHO.It’s ambitious to try and make British food a delicacy with so much preconception about the cuisine leaning towards the unf(l)avourable, so I applaud The Rowan’s efforts. The service was good, but we left feeling underwhelmed and scratching our heads. Nothing to write home about – yet. I may give it another chance in about 6 months to see if they’ve switched anything up, but with so many great restaurants in Ottawa I’ll probably spend my dime somewhere else.
Very nice atmosphere, colorful and comfy (if a bit too dark). Service was friendly and attentive, good beer and wine selection. Food was delicious: we started with soups, then had the lamb and beef, both were flavorful with great presentation, generous portions that were neither stingy nor wasteful. Will definitely return, new gem in the city that easily bests current Lansdowne offerings.
