Came here for brunch with my boyfriend. No wait on a Sunday around noon. Even the patio was mostly free! He got a classic breakfast platter, I got the three cheese omelet. The food was not bad but not great. Would have liked a bigger portion of side salad and properly buttered toast. There is a parking garage available for patrons.
Consistently fantastic. I’ve been to Von’s a quite a few times recently and am consistently beyond satisfied. The food is amazing and very well priced. The restaurant has character and the servers are very friendly. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend or bring others to Von’s, in fact I have been.
Delicious. Pasta was great (Butternut Squash Cannelloni, and Tuscan Bean Ravioli), I liked the paintings on the walls of the regular customers, and the service was great (our waiter was friendly and chatted with us)! Would definitely go back. I heard their brunch is amazing.
A real disappointment. I’ve been to Von’s more that a dozen times over several years. After today’s lunch, I’ll never go back. The first hint of a total disregard for customer service is the level of difficulty in simply making a reservation. There is no web service, and incredibly, the phone has no voice mail. After five or six tries during normal morning business hours during a weekday, I tried Twitter – no reply, despite robo-tweets being published daily. Not to be discouraged, I went anyway and had the worst lunch experience in a long time. The special was spinach and chvre quiche, which was barely edible. a gellatinous mess served lukewarm. Service was particularly unhelpful and inattentive. How does this place stay in business? With other Ottawa staple restaurants vanishing under the pressure of competition, Von’s had better shape up, or ship out.
Impolite waitstaff. The food is fine, nothing special and not terrible, but the waitstaff – oh, the waitstaff. I’ve been a few times with colleagues from work and with friends. The food is consistently okay and the waitstaff is consistently unfriendly and impolite. That the service isn’t widely lauded isn’t news and it doesn’t seem to impact their business, so I suppose there’s no real incentive for a change. If you want good food and great, friendly service, head down the street to Light of India. It is a fantastic local gem that has been in business in the Glebe, attuned to its community, for years.
Went here on a Monday of a long weekend. I search of a decent breakfast or lunch. On a whim and running out if ideas we decided to try out Von’s bistro in passing. I dislike giving a bad review but in my honest opinion I must emphasize how rude the wait staff was. Asked a male waiter about the crab avocado wrap and was told that the crab was imitation which wasn’t stated on the menu. And the waiter said condescendingly that there wouldn’t be real crab on the menu for the stated price. One friend ordered the club sandwich. But when it arrived it think they forgot to add the ingredients .. I wish I had taken A picture, atrocious. One piece had no chicken what so ever, just a chunk of tomato, mayo and piece or lettuce with a crumb of bacon. My friend wasn’t able to make a full size regular two size sandwich with the ingredients provided on the club. Eggs Benedict, pretty average. But in a city with an abundance Of chain restaurants, how dare this place exist independently. A female waiter came by after picking up our plates and with out asking for it, or asking if we wanted anything else, gave us the bill. When we left she did not acknowledge us. The best part of this lunch was that, we all had room for a kettlemans bagel afterwards 🙂
Brunch at Von’s. Four of us went there for brunch today, the service was attentive, considerate and not rushed. We were given coffee and carrot bread when we sat down. The omelet was good value at $10. I could choose my filling, spinach and goat cheese, and was free to choose half salad, half potato. Coffee, which was extra, was unlimited. My husband enjoyed the latkes with eggs any style and smoked salmon. My cousins, visiting for the day from Montreal were very pleased as well. We had excellent food in a lovely atmosphere.Dorothy
