I have passed by this cake house one too many times. I decided to finally pay them a visit. I wish you luck if you want to find a parking spot in the parking lot. That was one of the primary reasons that has deterred me from visiting Amadeus sooner.I was instantly wowed when I stepped inside! There were so many cakes to choose from! There were the standard full slabs and half slabs but what I adored were the small cakes they offered! So, difficult to choose from? You will know exactly what I mean when you are standing in front of Amadeus glass showcase in the cake shop! I instantly transformed into a small child in front of a candy store all over again!I finally landed on the Mont blanc and St. Honore. The Mont blanc was infused with decadent chocolate. The mousse center was rich and tasty. The exterior that witholds this marvellous cake was a thin jelly chocolate wrap. It was thin and infused with cocoa. Delish! Inside the Mont blanc was filled with hazelnut cream. Very yummy and creamy. Now for the St. Honore! It was said that the St Honore pastry is named for ‘French patron saint of bakery and pastry chefs’. This delectable pasty was invented in 1847. This old time cake has a long winded history and is French rooted. It’s primary ingredients consists of puff pastry, cream puff and caramelized sugar and whipped cream. The St Honore at Amadeus was executed very well! The puff pasty and cream married well together and was pure delight as each layer was eaten!I really enjoyed the cakes at Amadeus. I am eager to return back to try other cakes and scrumptious macarons. They appeared to be a popular hit with many paying patrons there . By the way they also serve excellent coffee and hot chocolate. The beverages are best accompanied with one of their delicious cakes. Best combo for laszy, relaxing afternoon. I can’t wait to go back!
Pricey but fresh and delicious pastries. Napoleon tasted great , nice and flaky pastry with delicious cream in the middle with just a hint of vanilla bean. I also enjoyed the pear and pistacchio tart and their strawberry jelly doughnuts. Some of the desserts are quite sweet so its better to ask the staff depending on what you like. Overall i came back a few times but because its so pricey i will return on special occasions since its very easy to spend $20 on just a few pastries.
The strawberry shortcake I ordered was THROUGHLY ENJOYED. I don’t even like strawberry shortcake and I had seconds. Everyone loved it. Furthermore, I got one of the small raspberry mouse cakes just for me, and it was heaven. Service could of been friendlier.
This place is popular for their croissants and desserts. Must try almond croissant and Napolean. Napolean is probably the best one I had in T dot. The almond croissant is rated very good from a very picky person from Shanghai. That should have some credibility. Recommended.RM
Pastry In C Minor E-Flat. E: Being a much more likely consumer of pies than cream/chocolate/mousse et al I picked up a Lintzer Pie and a Chocolate Hazelnut pastry. Having never had the former, I asked the salesclerk what it was before purchasing it. She replied that it is a ‘Lintzer Pie’ made from hazelnut and strawberry. It sounded good, but it was disappointing. It was hard, and possibly a little old, and filled with what tasted like strawberry consomm filling. The chocolate in my pastry was too dense and not subtle. Its nut content was lower than one would hope. It was too concentrated for my taste. The pie was likely not good by most people’s standards. The chocolate pastry might appeal to chocolate fanatics. It was too sweet for me.I was hoping for cream puffs or napoleons, but neither was available.I had shopped at Amadeus a dozen or so years ago and more than once and was hoping their standards had been maintained. They probably were, but the items that came out of the shop with me were not my cup of tea. I still prefer the pastry at Garni despite the limited selection and window of available.-A: Amadeus is a fairly large pastry shop. It is long and roomy. The owner has added three tables and corresponding chairs to allow for caf-style eating on-site.-T: The lady was in the back, heard the door and promptly came to the front to serve me. It was 9:50 at night, which takes me to the next point. When Toronto the boring sleeps at its usual bedtime of 9:00 barely anyone is open. Amadeus goes the extra hour and remains open until 10:00 PM.Parking isn’t an issue in the plaza.-S: The clerk wasn’t busy and she was helpful in explaining what’s what. There weren’t any customers in – this being Toronto everyone was asleep probably – the store either. She asked whether I could not pay with cash given how she had little change. The brown box kept the pastry whole and unblemished all the way home. Now that is a first.
Expensive but worth it! Love the tiramisu and the almond croissants!
Expensive but good
