The outdoor patio is adorable! This place was so delicious and came out served beautifully! I wish I took better pictures but we were enjoying the food too much to remember to snap a shot first! Everything I tired was amazing! I’ll definitely be coming back! torontostyle.weebly.com
I love me some meats! So when a friend suggested dinner at Branca, I pretty much starved myself the entire day. And, for the most part, it was pretty worth it.A former residential rowhouse on Dundas West, now converted into a cosy and initimate space, this charming little restaurant brings its A-game with its wood-fired grilled meats and other delicious South American-inspired fare. Grilled on their very own asado (a cinder-block fire pit), Branca serves up the most flavourful, slow-roasted, smoked barbecue this side of Argentina. It is a carnivores delight. To kick our taste buds into gear, a bowl of two chipas was served up. These are a type of cheese bread most commonly prepared in northern Argentina. Soft and chewy, I could have easily eaten another two … or five.Being our first time at Branca, my dining partner and I decided to share a few things, starting off with the Empanadas (because really, one does not dine at a South American restaurant and NOT have the empanadas).Filled with corn, roasted poblano, gruyere and fontina, these little pastries, while savoury, to me felt fairly average.Thankfully, the incredibly delicious Langostinos made up for the lackluster empanadas. Argentinian red shrimp placed on a bed of avocado, tostones and greens, drizzled with some crema were, as the kids say these days, completely on point. For our mains, we opted to try the Asado De Tira (beef short ribs) and the Costillas de Cordero (Ontario lamb chops), accompanied by some extra Condimentos (Chimichurri, Roasted Garlic Poblano, Romesco and Harissa sauces). While both meats were delicious and cooked to finger-licking perfection, my dining partner and I both agreed that the steak was the better of the two.Our mains were rounded off with a side Crispy Potato Strings and Roasted Cremini Mushrooms. Suffice it to say, all plates were cleaned out. Those darn potato strings get me every timeThe service was incredibly warm, providing a level of comfort that Ive not experienced at other restaurants. I would also be remiss if I didnt comment on the impressive wine selection. Very rarely do I find a restaurant that serves up several popular and affordable labels, all competing with an enviable list of cocktails South American style ofcourse.Overall, the meal was very enjoyable, the meats made me wanting more, the venue was warm and intimate, but it was the service that made me feel right at home.
First time dining here. From the outside you wouldn’t think it was a restaurant, I thought it was someone’s house. We made our reservation 2 months in advance. It’s a very small space. Probably only seats 30-35 people. I believe they were also constructing a patio area in the back of the area for the summer. We pretty much ordered all of the items on the menu since we were a large group. The best dish was the Tomahawk. Keep in mind that this is a 30 day dry aged bone-in river which costs about $140. Was it worth it? Well we all sure enjoyed it. Very tender and flavorful. You must try it with the sauces but really you only need the Chimichurri (it’s $1 for each sauce) If you order the appetizers they are very small. So really it’s good for 1-2 people. Our server was very pleasant and gave us a good idea of what kind of Argentinian food is about.
I was shocked to learn Branca had opened up on Dundas W so close to Lansdowne. Or, I guess I should say, I was very pleasantly surprised! This is exactly the kind of place this area needs. Branca serves Argentinian cuisine out of a renovated house on the side of Dundas W. They have two fire grills, one indoors and another more traditional open fire grill outside. The menu is small but everything is delicious.I visited Branca with my sisters and mom. We devoured the 32 oz Tomahawk steak (note, if a restaurant is serving a Tomahawk steak you know they mean business!). It was cooked to a perfect medium rare and was finished with just the right amount of salt. We paired it was fried potato strings and caramelized endive. Branca is the kind of place people will travel to because the food, atmosphere, and overall experience are on point with other hot restaurants of the moment. I’ll definitely be revisiting!
I’m proud to announce that we were the first table of ladies to order (and subsequently DEVOUR) the 32oz. Tomahawk steak. Grilled to perfection and served with 5 bold condiments that complemented the robust flavour of the beef to a tee. Great service. Cozy atmosphere. Oh, and the most crisp greens I’ve ever had. Be sure to ask for a tour of the smokehouse out back.
Delicious food and very cozy atmosphere. Went there last night for a bday dinner and we loved the veggie empanadas and all the proteins we had. The chicken was outstanding, it was smoked before it was roasted. The Tomahawk was juicy and so big that it easily feeds a family.
I was excited to hear that there was a new Argentinian restaurant in town. So after hearing the news I went to their website…. How disappointing… I’m Argentinian and I have been living in Canada for 16 years. I know well what Argentinian food is and the story of the grill V shape..lol .. Too bad that the story goes well but is not correct. Also, the image on the website all naked women?!!! Doesn’t represent the Argentinian culture, the gaucho folklore or anything Argentinian. Why represent a culture so poorly? Even reading the menu…too bad… To anyone going there please know you might be eating good looking and tasting food. Argentinian ? No. You will find other places to do that.
