China Cottage is a well known hakka chinese restaurant located in Markham near Markham and Steeles. The interior is well decorated and has a clean, classy look to it.I haven’t tried too much here other than the typical chilli chicken and fried rice dishes. Their take out menu is also quite cheap. If you’re looking for a $6 meal in Markham, it’s not too bad. The last time I went, I got their Chicken 88 with Beef Curry and Vegetable Fried Rice. Their chicken 88 is probably my favourite dish as it has a spicy tandoori flavour and I love spicy food. The fried rice is a huge portion and probably impossible to finish even with two people (unless you’re very hungry!). The beef was okay, nothing exceptional.Overall, if you have hakka chinese cravings, it’s not a bad place to eat. I’d say it’s equal to Fredericks (the well known Hakka Chinese restaurant two blocks down).
Worst hakka food I have ever eaten!!!. I decided to try something new, I usually go to Lin Garden for my hakka fix but since this was closer to me I opted to order some take out. Big mistake, I ordered the chef’s special shrimp which was supposed to be crispy with chilies, it was soggy and no taste of breading whatsoever. The chicken 88 was dry and overspiced. The mushroom fried rice was under seasoned and tasteless. The crispy beef was covered in some jelly type substance, it wasn’t crispy at all, chewy and gritty. I could go on. My bill was almost $50 and I threw everything out. Such a waste of food!! It is safe to say I will never dine or take out from this joke of a restaurant again!!
