Food there is just soso. Kinds of Canadian-Japanese fusion style food. bamboo sake is nice to try. especially the 3 1oz cups of sake in row, from sweet to more dry.

Hapa Izakaya is one of the participating restaurants of winterlicious festival which I was much looking forward to and it lived up to my expectations. Food was really nice and so was the service. I loved the Tonkatsu and matcha crme brle.I’m gonna go there again for sure to try their Korean BBQ.

I really liked this place when I went here with one of my girlfriends. The bar side was more busy and upbeat and a DJ came out later in the evening and there was dancing. And the restaurant side, which is where we sat down was quieter and more laid back. Our server was really nice and super friendly. She brought us a pot of green tea and kept refilling it with hot water regularly without any prompting. We ordered a few things to share: the fish tacos – you get 2 of these and they are loaded. Pretty good but not earth shatteringly different from other fish tacos I’ve had. The firecracker oshisushi was good. Our server came and blowtorched the tuna at our table. The saba oshisushi, which was also blowtorched, was actually sensational – I’m not normally a fan of mackerel but this was done really well with a dollop of ginger to balance everything out. My favorite for the night was the deep fried arancini balls, which was perfection. Overall, a great experience. This might be #2 on my list for izakaya restaurants. I would definitely go back!

Formerly Coco Lezzones, this trendy, cool, not your average Japanese joint services really interesting looking and tasty food. Great vibe and atmosphere – certainly worth a try.

I came here for dessert after seeing Hapa Izakaya offered matcha creme brle. I love matcha and its flavour came through perfectly in the creme brle. The creme brle came in a little ramekin, but it ended up being more than enough as it was extremely rich. The top was burnt to perfection. I enjoyed it right to the last bite.Hapa Izakaya had modern decor and the lighting was dim throughout the restaurant. The bathrooms were dimly lit as well.Overall, my experience there was enjoyable. I will be back to sample their tasty tapas items on the menu.

Really crowded place even at the tables. So tight that when you get out of your booth you have to apologize every time for brushing your rear against the other table. That was on a Friday night though. Service is a bit slow, took a long time to get food. The staff are nice and really pretty. Food was nothing special for an izakaya. Portions are small and not that tasty. Fun and chill atmosphere. Good place to chill or for a few drinks.

The wait staff was polite and accommodating but I guess with a full house and festival happening at your doorstep its understandable why service was slow. The food was innovative and tasted great so I would come back again to see if the service is the same on a regular day. alwayskaye.com
