Very good well made sushi in J Town was my first time and here and I would go again in the future, the space is a little shabby but the service is quick and efficient. Got the salmon rolls and blackened cod as an app and main to share with my mom with portions up to standards.

I rarely ever venture out to J-Town, so coming to Izakaya Ju was a nice surprise. The restaurant is a tiny place that stands mainly for drinking, but being as that I’m no drinker, I came specially for the food. The yakitori is what it seems to be known for, but please don’t ignore the rest of the eccentric menu that they have to offer. I wanted to be able to get a sampling of so many things there…We had to try the yakitori right?Ordered 2 chicken yakitoris ($2.5) and a chicken ball yakitori ($3). They have others like skin, octopus, pork belly, etc. You get to choose between teriyaki sauce or sea salt. The chef in the back grills it over an open flame (he holds a fan and all)… The chicken leg yakitori was incredible. I loved the rich grilled flavor that seeps into the meat without being overly smoky. The meat was tender and juicy and had the right amount of fat (because having fat grilled is essential). The chicken ball tasted more as if it were steamed than grilled, so i wasn’t a fan. Also ordered Uni (3 for $10), Pork Belly in Special Sauce ($5), and Ju’s Cha Su Udon ($10). The Uni was very fresh and the slices were nice, plump, and thick. The Pork Belly in Special Sauce was actually pretty mediocre. The pork belly was quick grilled and tossed in a savory soy sauce that I thought was too overpowering and didn’t really help the pork belly at all. The Udon was served with several slices of thick cut pork belly. The broth was good, and the udon noodles excellent. I wasn’t a fan of the pork belly as I’m not a big fan of it being cooked in a soup as opposed to over the grill. My favorite thing though was the Grilled Binchan Chicken Burger with seaweed dusted fries ($9). First of all, I applaud the genius who decided to sprinkle seaweed flakes onto my fries. It had all the saltiness needed for the fries and was something I hadn’t tried before. The chicken burger was amazing. They take a grilled chicken thigh and smush it between two buttered buns with a leaf of lettuce and a special homemade mayo sauce that was just so damn good. One of the better sandwiches I’ve had in quite some time and real simple. The morale of the story (review) is to get something GRILLED! Their food was ok, but the grilled food items were incredible! Atmosphere was great as I liked how friendly the servers were. They were always polite and smiling and were attentive to everything. They also yell and scream at you when you enter and walk in (but in a good way!). The place is similar to a Guu or Fin but with a more relaxed crowd which made it more intimate. I enjoyed that. Definitely will come back for that Chicken Burger. Damn good. cheatdayeveryday.com
Amazing restaurant. Best Japanese restaurant
Good find!. I was introduced to this by my mom. Everything tastes really good but the prices are a bit on the high side (we tend to order a lot, some of the portions can be quite small). The octopus rice is great, but the last time we had it, there were barely any octopus. I recommend the braised pork belly. The sashimi is really fresh and tasty (my mom loves the hamachi). Overall, good food, small portions, lots of variety. We always come back here for a treat.
Unlike other izakaya places, you can actually get full from this place! Food wise, the octopus balls were awesome but not the popcorn chicken.
