With a commitment to a no waste kitchen and using whatever the farmers send this is a great eating experience. From the green squash soup ( with squash seed praline) amuse bouche to the smooth and intense milk and dark chocolate mousse desert ( with haskap berries and vanilla goat yogurt ) every dish was complex unusual and satisfying. I ate deer lichen for the first time (crunchy and refreshing). Staff are friendly and committed – very casual with a lot of black.
This was just ok. Honestly , we’re leaving hungry, and not overly impressed after having spent $216 for two of us. The options were this or Chabrol on DINR, and I strongly regret choosing this. Would have been exponentially better at other options on DINR.
I’m finishing my meal as I write this. Very kick ass! Standard well upheld throughout. Most dishes were a hit or just shy of… only criticisms are on the tomato salad (a bit bland and the tomatoes weren’t special enough to stand out on their own) and dessert was too sweet for my preference, but I think most people might disagree with me on that.Textures and flavors dance harmoniously. Creative and diverse from start to finish. Good service. And an unassuming setting.I will be back to this spot for sure!!
Had the pleasure of trying the tasting menu at Loka this past Sunday; it was chef Dave’s birthday, so he started us off with bone-marrow cakes! Every item on the menu was amazing; my favourite was the chowder; I definitely recommend this restaurant.
Glad I had the pleasure of sampling the amazing culinary creations of Chef Dave Mottershall (aka Chef Rouge) during Loka’s popup stint at HiLo Bar. So inventive and different, so tasty. Now can’t wait to try the tasting menu at its brand new location.
