My husband and I celebrated a fantastic anniversary celebration here. The food was outstanding. The chef takes great care and pride in his menu choices and preparation. Not everything is traditional but everything works and tastes delicious. The service was excellent and very friendly. We felt special and even enjoyed learning and reviewing some of our knowledge of the Japanese language. Thank you Mr. Nakamori and staff. It was an anniversary to remember.

After Zen moved from Scarborough to Markham, Nakamori took over their old spot. Not many people seem to know about it yet, so I decided to go check it out and see if it would live up to expectations. I think it’s a pretty solid restaurant. I don’t mess around, so I just ordered a round of omakase to see if Chef Nobu could knock my socks off. My socks stayed on throughout my 7 course meal, but there were some definite highlights (and lowlights). The service was quite nice, and I rather enjoyed their take on the sushi pizza — an unholy fusion of burger and sushi! Succulent, saucy meat, and the crispy exterior of the pizza with the fluffy rice inside, it was a very memorable flavour bomb. As well, the sushi itself was by the book, fresh, and serviceable. This restaurant is not without its flaws. Right when I walked in and looked at the drink menu, I noted that they charged for green tea. Seeing as I have green tea at home, I opted for water. The biggest issue I had was that almost everything was SO POWERFULLY FLAVOURED! One example is the tempura shrimp with wasabi mayo that I got as part of my meal. It was pretty much wasabi mayo with shrimp! That poor shrimp was dead already and didn’t need to be drowned again in sauce. There really isn’t much good sushi in Scarborough any more. If I do go back to Nakamori, I’m just going to stick to their sushi, which was probably best part of the meal.
