Went here expecting to have good tasting food but small portions. Our table of 4 admitted we all expected the same thing. From the outset we were pleasantly surprised. The only thing that was a miss was the broccoli side and the person that ordered it stated she only ordered it with the idea she wouldn’t finish it, she didn’t want to order something she would regret not finishing. There have been some criticism that it was too expensive, luckily for us we were expecting it to be more expensive then what we would usually spend. $650 for 4 of us which included 4 drinks and a bottle of wine was exactly what we guessed and what our bill was before tip. My wife and I have decided this will be one of our once a year treats!
Simple and elegant. The waitstaff are fantastic. My finance and I celebrated our engagement here and it was a fantastic choice. I had a white fish with the most delicious vegetables (I would say the sides almost outshone the mains). The fish tacos as an appetizer are wonderful.
Prices are out of range for ordinary people.. Although the food and the service at ONE is always outstanding, I was absolutely shocked to discover although the diners leave substantial tips for their servers that not one penny of these tips go to the staff in the kitchen. Without the kitchen staff there would be no food let alone the excellent cuisine that is served. I am also appalled to find out that the majority of the staff that work in the kitchen at ONE only make $12.00 to $14.00 an hour. That salary is extremely low for such a high end restaurant. If that salary also included a benefit package then it COULD possibly be considered acceptable. In a huge city like Toronto twelve to fourteen dollars an hour is not a living wage even for a single person, How is someone who has to live in downtown Toronto in order to work there expected to survive. Living outside of the city is practically impossible unless you are willing to spend 2 to 3 hours commuting back and forth every day on top of the 12 to 14 hours you have just worked.When customers are paying up to five/six hundred dollars or possibly more a night for dinner and they are serving 400 to 500 meals a night that seems to be a lot of profit for the owner of ONE even after his expenses have been covered. If he did not have such amazing line cooks/chefs working for him at ONE I assure you there would never be the same people returning to eat there week after week. Remember diners what you see is not necessarily what is seems. To the line cooks/chefs at ONE thank you for cooking such outstanding food, I have never been disappointed.
Outstanding service. I thoroughly enjoyed the dining exp at One. Great food, I had the roast rib poutine with foie gras , totally delicious. As the night progressed the music in the lounge area slowly increased in volume. Will definitely go again.
