My favorites were the variety of smoked salmon and my bagel, which had chopped liver, onions, pickles, and schmaltz. That sandwich was, by far, the most memorable thing I ate in Toronto. I don’t particularly like bagels, but the one I had was not too chewy and dense. It had a nice crisp crust and a slightly chewy tasty interior. The liver was nice and mild and balanced by the not-too-sour pickles and sharp raw onions. The surprise was the schmaltz with tiny tiny bits of what seemed like crunchy chicken skin. It was so fragrant. I enjoyed every bite and the schmaltz (which is not in every bite) was teasing and tantalizing, so that I felt like I had won a prize each time it’s in a mouthful!

I have been looking forward to visiting this hidden gem in Toronto and finally today had the chance. I had high expectations and honestly this is one of the best bagel sandwiches I have ever laid eyes on. Josh is amazing, he is truly a master at what he does and will let you try something if you ask. He recommended the smoked pastrami salmon with scallion cream cheese, capers and onions on a poppy seed bagel. I also bought the famous chub chub as I could not resist. After the first bite, I was in heaven and I mean heaven! This was freaking delicious and every bite was just as intoxicating! I am so returning to try them all and you should too if you get a chance do not pass up on this place! |Just ask for Josh, he will take care of you and will be happy to customize your sandwich for you.

I walked into Schmaltz this morning not know what to order and the guy working behind the counter finally recommended the chub-chub (which was fantastic) their most popular sandwhich. The gravlax on it was really nice, and the fish was super fresh which is ultimately why I wanted to write a review. For anyone in the neighborhood looking for a quick bite to eat, this is definitely your place to go.
