The waiter was racist, sexist, and made many unnecessary remarks. I went to try this restaurant with my Mandarin-speaking friends after finishing class. The waiter was chatting with them when I came back from the washroom (which was disgusting). They were speaking in Mandarin, which I do not understand. After the waiter knew that I did not understand Mandarin, he pointed a finger at me as he told my friends how important it is to know Mandarin, and how I should get a Mandarin-speaking boyfriend. He said more things as his finger was pointed at me, but my friends told me it was better that I didn’t understand what he said, and did not translate the rest. The food came, and they were not that great. For the amount I was paying, I could get much larger portions and better food somewhere else.Later on in the meal, the waiter came back to chat more (in Mandarin, of course, completely ignoring my presence). This time, he made many racist and unnecessary remarks about black people. My friends described those comments as very cringing and uncomfortable. So, this is my first impression of Sichuan food. Will not return, and will not recommend; unless if you enjoy having a finger pointed at you while you are being talked about like a worthless object for not speaking Mandarin. I have never had such a disappointing experience at a restaurant before.
As newcomers to Toronto the food scene is very new to us, cuz took us here as his previous dining experience had been fantastic. We have been here twice in three weeks specifically for one dish the hot pepper chicken. They have recently renovated and had no one told me, I would definitely say the place needs an upgrade. Pointy long chair, tables with plastic table cloth considering the greasy nature of the Sichuan food. The menu is ellobrate with enough items for vegetarians as well as those who need their share of meat, pork to fish.A party of particularly hungry people we called in for the following:SLICED FISH IN GARLIC SAUCE: Boneless steamed fish, had this distinct flavor of the garlic and could be eaten all by itself. Makes for a great appetizerBEEF IN BLACK BEAN SAUCE: sliced beef pieces served with peppers in black bean sauce, so well cooked, a light gravy it tastes well with the rice and as an appetizer.CHICKEN HOT PEPPER: this was the main. Now if you like the fire of the peppercorns, only then you should venture here. It is a big bowl of chicken, napa cabbage, and peppercorns in gravy. Large portion size, must be eaten with rice or it will flame you. Lovely. Highly recommended.EGG FRIED RICE: serves as a catalyst for the spice of the Sichuan, as the bland of the rice soothes The flavor. The second time around we decided to explore the menu a little more and called forMARINATED RIBS: the meat almost melted in my mouth and tastes delicious. It’s a good side dish and if you are ok with bones it is a recommended item.EGGPLANT IN CHILLI GARLIC SAUCE: I have always liked the Chinese eggplant and wanted the cuz and husband to try it so we got this as an appetizer while we waited for the food. Very recommended if you are a Vegetarian or plan to eat vegetables while here.CHICKEN HOT PEPPEREGG AND SHRIMP FRIED RICE: They accidently brought this out instead of the egg rice, we were hungry and kept it. Does the job.I like the flavor of the food and for the chicken pepper we would be returning again. There is a lot that can be done in terms of tables and sitting arrangement, it stinks at times as well. Apart from that the food is great, the service was also not bad. Overall a 3.5-4/5 and does have a repeat value.

Approach with caution. For the first six months they were open, this was my favorite restaurant. I remember eating their pork in spicy garlic sauce with tears of mingled pain and ecstasy running down my face. Recently, however, the same wonderful pork dish appeared on the plate with two shreds of hot peppers and minimal garlic and ginger. When I complained, the waitress assured me that the denatured puddle of meat on the plate was the way they had always served it. Likewise, my friend had been served General Tso’s chicken in a mildly ketchupy sauce, no spice to speak of.. Yech. Why would anyone come to a Sichuan restaurant for bland? The chinese greens with king mushrooms is an excellent choice, or was when last I was there. Service is prompt and the furniture is comfortable, but I won’t go back. Too bad.
