United Bakers was busy at lunchtime both times I visited, and there can be a bit of a wait for a table. Although the service was relatively fast and efficient, our server seemed a bit unfriendly and rushed. The food was decent enough, but some of the prices on the menu appeared a bit high for this type of restaurant. SWMBO had the Tuna Salad Platter (9.99), which came with fries and a toasted bagel. The tuna salad was a fairly safe blend of tuna, mayo, and a little bit of finely chopped green onion. The fries were very good. I chose the Eggplant Parmigian, which came with a side salad and bagel. The eggplant was smothered in very cheesy mozzarella cheese, which I liked. My preference would have been for the edges of the eggplant to be cooked a little bit more, but overall it was a tasty meal

Since I was a kid, United Bakers creation of soups vary by the day; however, one is on offer everyday, and its quite obvious why. The Green Split Pea Soup is a house favourite and is available to take-out by the litre. Rich and creamy, hints of dill and red pepper compliment the soft noodles at the bottom of the bowl. We took some home after our meal, as did most of the patrons we were sitting beside. torontofoodblog.com

Overpriced, Shabby, Cafeteria-Style food – stay away. Menu is overpriced, in relation to what you get. I cannot say that the food was absolutely horrible, but it was nothing special. The decor is outdated and shabby. Gross! Mirrors on the ceiling are super tacky. The owners did not put a penny into refurbishment – treating it like a cash cow. It must be a cash cow – food is mediocre, at best, but priced to the nose-bleeds. $13 for a salad platter – chopped romaine with canned olives and non-riped tomatoes. Cheap! Not a home-made by any stretch. $70 for two adults – 2 kids dinner, with no deserts or apetizers! What a rip off! Fool me once – never again! Service is fast, due to the cafeteria cooking. Most of the food is probably partially cooked and just warmed up on the grill or in the deep fryer. Most customers are elderly – probably come here out of habit, or maybe visited when they were kids.

Bf and I tried there Potato soup and it was great! 16oz for 3.99, that’s a decent price! There banana nut muffin is really good too..I love how everyday day of the week they have different soups made fresh!

Go-to family dairy restaurant in Toronto. Beloved by seniors and kiddies (and everyone in between). I get the Greek salad with black bread and sometimes pea soup. Hubby gets eggs n onions. Kid 1 gets cheese blintzes kid 2 gets noodles n cheese. It is packed and the service is fast and friendly. Food and coffee are consistently good. People who eat here do so often and we are amongst them!

Family Tradition. I love this place not only because of the food and the service, but it has become a landmark in my family’s customs. On numerous occasions, we go to UB for its famous Pizza Bagel, Fries, Greek Salad and of course its Pea Soup! Everyone is so nice there and I always bump into someone I know!
