Still my go-to restaurant for a nice meal, attentive service, and a pleasant atmosphere. Have yet to have a bad dish here. I’m always impressed with the quality ingredients and local fare. A must try if you are into the Ottawa restaurant scene.
A warm haven on a snowy New Year’s Eve. We reserved for the earliest of two seatings and were slightly surprised to learn that only a three course table d’hote was available in the first seating. (A four course meal was possible during the second seating, but it turns out that wasn’t a problem… more than enough to eat.)I love the staff here: attentive, knowledgeable and cheerful without being cloying. We opted for the wine pairing: good choice! One of the owners – Clay – was on site and making great selections. When we chatted with him and showed our interest in what he was doing he let us taste some things that he particularly recommended (that we wouldn’t have otherwise sampled.) Our meals were mostly excellent. For firsts, my tuna tataki was great, while my wife’s salad (a complex mix of ingredients) while good, was a bit salty – enough to mention it to our server. For mains, I had a wonderful duck leg confit, and she really enjoyed the braised octopus. Desserts were also first class: artisinal cheeses and Port for me; stick lemon cake and a late harvest Riesling for her. I love having a Becta restaurant here in the West end of town. (Also great for lunch, by the way.)
My husband and I dined here Sunday night, celebrating our 6 year anniversary. Overall, we really enjoyed the food, ambiance and service, and well probably be back.We ordered the sea scallops and the flatiron steak, both perfectly cooked, as were the side dishes and garnishes. Our server was knowledgeable about potential wine pairings, and helped us to navigate our options. For dessert, we ordered the Butterfinger; a mouse cake made of peanut butter and chocolate. While our dinner had been reasonably prompt, we waited for quite a while for this dessert. While we waited, another server came by to apologize and offer us dessert wine. We refused and continued to wait for the dessert. When it came, our server apologized again for the wait, and we received the dessert for free. The dessert itself was delicious and we had no complaints. The restaurants interior was fresh and modern. We appreciated the artwork. With a same-day reservation, we were seated near the door, which wasnt an issue for us, but not ideal. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant to others, but would recommend making a reservation further in advance.
Great space, great food and attentive and knowledgable staff. We popped in for late lunch in a Tuesday. The menu was new and fun and the food was delicious and so good I have to ask myself why I do not come here more often for lunch.
Probably one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Ottawa. Food details and flavours were incredible. Even the dip for bread was infused with Indian spices and was divine! The server knew it was my birthday and offered us champagne, brought us extra cheese for our starter after finding out which one was our favorite and gave us dessert wine on the house at the end of the night. Never has anyone gone above and beyond like that! Food was sensational. I had the lamb for my main and my husband had steak. All cooked and flavoured to perfection. Amazing ambience, open concept and modern.
Beautiful restaurant. Had the lunch 2 plates for $22, which they call small plates, but we’re very generous. Friendly staff, very helpful and accommodating (ordered the spicy margarita, which was not to my taste and they replaced with no issues). I would go back again.
