Not going to return, very, very disappointing!!! On November 30, our group of three had a reservation for 6:30pm at Piccolos. Upon arriving at 6:15pm, we were advised that there were no tables available for our group and they asked that we wait on the takeout side, which we soon came to realize, was a dark and dingy closet size room, making us feel like we were in the movie castaway. When we asked how long a wait we would expect for a table, the response we got made you feel like youre talking to the Cable company we are experience higher than normal volumes, please hold and we will be with you shortly. After a forty minute wait, now in a very crowded castaway section of ten, we were guided to a table. Also and very important to note, when entering the restaurant, we were giving our waiter our name and reservation time, when a customer arrived just behind us with a Chihuahua under his arm. We commented that we did not want a table next to this dog and we were told that it was a service animal and that nothing could be done about it, as it was in fact a Service animal. Truly, the Staff is not aware of the law covering Service animals and Guide dogs. The Law forbids Service animals from certain premises, typically where food is processed, manufactured, or sold. Guide dogs are allowed into places where food is served or sold, but the law excludes other animals. As we were being seated at our table, the waiter accidently hit my hand, forcing my fingers, finger deep into another customers food. The waiter apologized, handed me a napkin and then continued to serve the very same food to his customer. Once seated and reviewing the menu, I found dried pasta sauce on the pages of my menu, which certainly was not a good impression; however, consistent with my previous observations. We then ordered some wine and our meal, advising our waiter that my wife has an allergy to citrus fruit, lemon, lime, and orange and that it is very important that she not be served any of these fruits or juices in anything. When the waiter delivered the wine and some water to our table, the water had a wedge of lemon in it. It took a half hour to get replacement water. This type of mistake makes my wife extremely concerned as she questions what her entre will hold.We waited over 2 hours for the first plate of food to arrive. The family of four, seated at a table near to us forty-five minutes after our seating, received their meal before us. Our first meal delivered was disgustingly dried out and overcooked, as if it had been under a heat lamp far too long. This meal, when ordered, was specifically requested to have no black olives and yet, they delivered it with black olive throughout the entire dish. The second plate of food arrived five minutes after the first and looked horrid, dried out and repulsive. We never did receive the third plate, as we canceled our order and left. As this was now 9pm, our options of dining elsewhere on a Friday night were very limited. When leaving, the Staff comments were: We are busy on Fridays, It is the holiday season, We over booked. We saw this dilemma as a Management issue and an extremely poor one at that. In reviewing the reviews on line, it is evident that we are not alone in our experience nor in our opinion. Terribly disappointing!!!
Stayed away for about 15 years but was convinced by friends to revisit Piccolo’s last night. It is worse than I remember because it still has not been updated in any way. This place is not charming, retro or quirky. It’s just sad. I am not only referring to the dinginess of the decor and goofiness of the table settings but – omg the food is still, bad, 80’s Italo-Canadian fare and the wine list is a joke. I was looking through the book of a menu for something light / fresh and ordered Mediterranean Tilapia on a salad. So gross. The fish was hidden under a layer of cheese (at least I think it was cheese) and some flavourless puttanesca sauce and the greens were wilted. I scrapped away at it and ate a few bites of fish and a few mushrooms but it was not edible. The garlic bread goop that everyone seemed else to enjoy was undercooked dough floating in butter, oil and cheese – quite disgusting. I hear the pizza is ok… if you must go.
Came to pick up order and still had a wait inside for the food to be brought out – first mistake. Ordered a lasagna to go and was highly disappointed. Nothing compares to homemade but this was awful and I didn’t finish it. First and last time ordering from this restaurant.
if You like Italian food do Not eat here, Chef Boy Ar Dee is better. Tonight I have been more disappointed, I am Italian born, and the original owner of Piccolos is from my home town, but this is not the original owners food anymore, it is a farce.First we ordered the garlic breads with olive oil and Parmesan cheese, what a JOKE, if you even tasted the cheapest olive oil you know this is not even olive oil that is there, cmon really folks, those of you who like it here have to try an authentic Italian restaurant,I eat fresh homemade bread with olive oil often, an this is not it at Piccolos, its expensive fast food, McDonalds can serve this and say its Italian,The Lasagna is so bland, I told the cashier this and she told me it is a best seller, I told her the customers here have not eaten at authentic places, and honestly no Italians eat here anymore, if they do shame shame shame. The spaghetti veal Parmesan was like anything else here, bland, the pasta was thrown all on top of a so called veal parmesan, the veal tasted bland, fried, crispy, soggy where the pasta sauce absorbed into it but thats it,.The pop my guest ordered wasnt even fizzy, I even like fountain pop, whats wrong here folks, even the pop is crap!We were told they ran out of meatballs for the appetizer, but they somehow had meatsauce for the pasta and lasagna eh?? HOW the heck can you have plenty of meat for meat sauces and cant make a meatball with the same kind of meat? You cant if you are not making homemade style food, thats why they ran out of meatballs, because they dont male them, does that make sense., ground meat is ground meat. The server we had was something else, a comedian who tries to be funny when he should be a waiter, Heath is his name I believe, he told at least 3 tables about his story of a ‘wind plate or dish’, this came about when he forgot to bring out the salad or plate and explained that the wind dish is an empty plate and he brought that instead, hahaha go laugh elsewhere when its time to serve the public we want food and good service not nonsense,THE WORST is when I overheard HEATH tell a group of 4 folks drinking quite a bit and ordered more drinks that their drinking is not a problem to him because that he did not care what they did once they left the establishment, if they drink and drive or walk or take a taxi is none of his business once they leave,. WHAT about social responsibility and smart serve, ever hear of vicarious liability HEATH, your restaurant is liable for your actions, try to be funny elsewhere and try to be a darn good waiter here, but that doesnt matter to me as I dont care what happens inside your establishment either, because I will never enter it again, and do suggest that if you like real Italian food try another place, PLEASE try another place like koolinis, or la guardia, or Il Gabbiano Ristorante which I was very happy with when I ate there, and you cant say that most Italian restaurants are expensive, I paid too much at piccolos for low quality food,Honestly, if Piccolos just tweak the ingredients, or follow some basic recipes and instead of having the food look good, make it taste good then it can have real enjoyment of the people, not of the fooled people, and make the waiter know that proper representation of the restaurant goes a long way, stop acting the fool. The long wait, over priced as if its a classy place, the foolish waiter who I wanted to smack around, and the social irresponsibility along with the bland food and how dare you call it olive oil has made me write this,I will not eat here, I was disappointed and told the cashier I would wait to write this review but after thinking about what the waiter mentioned and through social responsibility out the window led me to think he cares less if my kid gets hit by a drunk driver he served and I will not care for being truthful, I was told to try the pizza and maybe, just maybe I will, but If I find that is is distasteful I will put an even more distasteful review.Ciaoread my other reviews of many eateries, and know I will be crude when its called for and thankful when satisfied, you readers deserve the truth, and my experience tonight was this above, I hope the drinkers driving home do not get into an accident and tell police what the server said, I am sure that is not smart serve and Mother Against Drunk Drivers will not appreciate Piccolos attitude as the worker represents the place and the so does the meal.Ciao Piccolos, you were great once, please be great again, or the original owners will always regret selling the name to these new folks, Visited May 2015bodyfitt
Best In town!. My family have been going there for more than 21 years! We have never been disappointed. This place is always decorated to the 9s for each season. I can tell Cindy is passionate about her food and atmosphere. There is one thing a new patron must understand; be ready to make a night out of it. The food takes time to cook as each dish is made from scratch. What I do is order some wine;)The wait staff are friendly and professional. I gave also had Cindy cater some dishes for my wedding and they were phonominal! I highly recommend!
New Year’s Eve Fiasco Dinner. My husband and I plus another couple had made reservations for dinner New Year’s Eve. Our reservation was for 9 pm. We arrived a few minutes before 9 to find the waiting room plus the hallway completely packed. The people waiting told us their reservation was for 8:30 and they were told they still had another half hour to wait and the people in the waiting room were there before them. Once we managed to make our way into the restaurant we saw half the tables still waiting to place their orders and after waiting for about 10 minutes without seeing anyone at the front counter to check in we decided to leave. At that point it looked like we wouldn’t get a table for at least another hour and a half to two hours. That put a damper on our evening plans and where do you go for a nice dinner at that time without reservations???? We’d been faithful patrons of the restaurant for many years and always recommended it to others but not anymore. We will look for a different place to celebrate special occasions.
Know what you are going for!. If you want a posh, modern atmosphere and a quick meal then this is not the place for you. It is an experience most people are not used to in today’s fast-paced world. We have been here several times with many different friends and always enjoyed ourselves. Reservations are highly recommended and make sure that you have plenty of time because fresh made-to-order meals are not flying out of the kitchen. As far as we’re concerned though, it is worth the wait and the time flies with good company. While the food is delicious, it is certainly not for those that are worried about eating a day or two worth of calories in one sitting on occasion. Yes the garlic fingers come out swimming in butter, but that is what they are – little doughy delights sopping in butter and garlic. Aside from the salad you can choose as a side, just about everything here is pretty much guaranteed to add inches just by looking at it – but a couple times a year followed by some hours of penance on the treadmill or bicycle and it all comes out in the wash. It’s unfortunate that some people have had experiences that they were not pleased with and as is often the case nowadays it is those same good people that quickly take to these forums to publicly warn off everyone else (good news travels by word of mouth at a snails pace – bad news moves at net speed). We have had our share of bad experiences at other popular spots in Windsor – no one is perfect. We totally understand that some may swear it off forever, but don’t let that be the deciding factor for you. Give it a try! If something is not right, let the manager know. And yes, it is an old building, so when making your reservation, ask for a table near the fireplace or kitchen (and then the wait staff can’t make a move without you being able to catch them.)
