The service is terrible. Even if you call in an order it won’t be ready. Clueless servers. The worst is the food is actually really good. But not good enough to have patience for the slow uncaring staff.

Worst service on the island of Montreal. Whoever said the service was quick must be an employee. Its too bad. Great location and a good resto/ pub is needed in the village but this place has the most arrogant owner and poorly trained staff I have ever seen.

Just had a terrible meal with the most inept waiter ever. Needed to ask for the basic cutlery to eat the meal, bread, butter (which never came). Bowl was warmer than the stew in it. Waiting to see if I got food poisoning. It is a good place to drink, but don’t go there expecting food or service.

First visit….. I dine out for personal & business, frequently. When this place was proposed as a meeting place, I read the reviews. I always read review and generally weigh the good with the bad, nobody is ever perfect and one bad experience does not dictate a systemic problem. So I write this review with a single experiece. However, while I did go on a Thursday night, it was rather empty, only the upstairs was open. There were but a few patrons, including a table with screaming babies…really, it isn’t bad enough on planes…is there no excaping this? I digress and that is no reflection on the pub. Our waitress was friendly and prompt. Was this because there were few tables? The service was friendly, however…for those looking to have long converations with the staff, they are there to work not fill the empty void of your life, let them do their job and maybe others won’t be waiting 30 minutes for a beer! The wine and beer selection was reasonable and spirit prices are on the high side, 8.50 for a glass of Chianti??? The food selection was as expected for Irish pub fare, 40 West it isn’t, so set your expectations lower. While I cannot attest to any of the complaints others have posted, I can only say this. I ordered the stew. It arrived quickly as one might expect, hot and tasty. The price was reasonable at 11.00$ however, the bread that comes with….was a let down especially when you consider the place is a bakery!!! I suggest to the owners, should this ever find it’s way to them, a basket of bread, preferably crusted and hot!!! Otherwise, would I re-visit??? Yes, certainly.

The food. I am not sure what to say ….but the food in the summer was actually pretty good ,now it is salty and not well done . The wings are the worst in the west island .the used to be pretty good . My friend had the onion soup on are last visit salty no flavor and p.s when you melt the cheese on the top of the soup , melt the cheese! If you want people to comeback up the food quality ,and take a look at your wine prices $11.00 for a glass of Italian house wine get real!

Seriously, frozen wings???. I can’t believe I found another resto in the west island serving frozen food to their customers!Again, my friends and I have been coming to the Black Lion weekly for the beer and wings, and have never been disappointed. With a great selection of beers on tap, domestic and imports as well as great wings, almost as big as capon wings!About a month ago we went for the wings, and we were served small, overly salty wings. Simlilar to the frozen wings from the super market. We brushed it off, thinking that the Black Lion were having an off night.Last week, we went for beer and wings, and to our surprise the wings were even worst!! I had ordered buffalo wings, and I was served nothing of the sorts. Again they had served us frozen wings that were deep fried. The portion of fries were 3 times the amount of the portion of wings on our plates!!!!!!I spoke to the owner who was trying to explain times were tough.I can undertsand what he’s saying, but now, how can I trust a restaurant serving really bad frozen wings like that, and pass it off as their own wings??They had said they were going to change back to the way things were, but I’m sure I want to take that chance and waste my money…Too bad, the wings at the black Lion were amazing, and to be deceived that way, really ruined their reputation…FYI If anyone is looking for really good wings, head to Cunninghams, you won’t regret it!
