If I had to pick a favorite Italian restaurant in the city, it would be Il Cenone. Tucked away in Cartierville, this gem provides a feeling of home. The first hall is a mix of rustic colors and a stone wall, complete with a fireplace and windows opening onto Gouin boulevard. The second hall is mainly used for parties, providing a dance floor and terrace.I’ve been for both lunch and dinner and have always gone with the table d’hte. If one word were to be used to describe the food, it’d be authentic. In most Italian restaurants, I find the dishes to be quite commercial…. but not here. The portions are sizeable, the ambiance is comforting and the staff is very experienced.A must try! foodiemontrealaise.wordpress.com

Facts about the Groupon Deal.. 2 couples went there to dine, each couple had a Groupon coupon. Each Groupon cost $39 for a 4 course meal. The Groupon said the cost of the meal included in the Groupon was approx. $129. Sounded like a good deal. The restaurant was nice, food was good, service was slow, but we were not in a hurry. We had 2 bottles of wine, which totaled $70 or so.When the bill arrived, the waiter had added 15% of the perceived total cost of the meals (in our case – 2X $129.00 + $70 for the wine). I understand and fully agree that when using Groupons the tip (which should be voluntary in my view, not automatically added to the bill for a table of 4) should be on the full menu priceIf we did not have a Groupon thus, the meal would have cost us 2 X $129 + $70 for the wine i.e. $328 + tip i.e. $82/person plus tip on top of that. In my view that would have been expensive. With the Groupon it cost us ($39 X 2 + $70 + the automatically added tip of 15% on $328 i.e approx $46 tip, giving a total cost of $195 or so for 4 people i.e approx $50/person, which is borderline value for money.Groupon buyers be aware of this.

Wonderful restaurant. Dante and his wife are wonderful hosts to a great restaurant with very nice ambiance and warm staff. The food is delicious; we had a steak for my husband and the lemon chicken myself and both were scrumptious! We are definitely going back! We highly recommend this restaurant!
Pour les francophones, ce resto est super bon!27 May, 2012I absolutely adore this restaurant. I was married there last year. I had my ceremony in the main room in front of the gorgeous fireplace. After our cocktails we moved to our private room for our reception. We had over 50 people at our wedding and everyone loved Il Cenone. Dante is the owner and he still remembers my name! I will always feel so welcome there. His food is unforgettable and very well priced. The atmosphere is classy and inviting and Luc (one of the waiters) is super. I will return ad often as possible. Try the Branzino grilled fish, it is so succulent, we served it at our wedding. The menu is fabulous, everything is so fresh. The house wine is scrumptious. You will not be disappointed!
