Amazing Friday night (even though we were hung over from our meal at Citizen the night before). Bison Tartar was on point, best beets i have ever had in my life, endives were so delicious it was almost like a dessert (butter and caramel, yum!). We had an incredible bottle of wine, incredible food. I cannot wait to go back in the summer and sit outside. Good job Team Coif! Our server was one of the best we have had at a restaurant.
This place is amazing we were very well treated. The wine selection is fabulous and extensive if they do not have your wine they bring to your table similar wine and you choose. The suggested wine was excellent. The food is well presented and it is like tapas and very tasty. The server was very nice and attentive. The desert was so good the everybody at the table had to taste them. It is a place to go back our experience was amazing
I liked this place a lot, especially the atmosphere and service. I sat on the patio with friends and we enjoyed the charcuterie, wine and cocktails. It was nice to have a variety of meats and spreads. That being said I did find the portions to be quite small. We ordered the charcuterie and cheese and the cheese portions were some of the smallest I’ve seen, the charcuterie on the other hand was generous with two types of duck, prosciutto, chorizo and more. We also ordered pork and fries which were both prepared perfectly. The ricotta was fine but nothing special. All said, we all said we would be back for sure and would recommend it for a night out with friends!
Excellent lunch. Helpful and attentive staff. Owner was happy to come discuss wine pairings and recommend. Ask for bigger wine list if adventurous. Lots more to offer than small list on table.
Okay establishment. I was really excited to have a new restaurant like this in the Ottawa area, but sadly it did not live up to my expectations. The food (small plates) was good but not great. The bison tartare was really nice but it was sitting on top of a streak of what I think was cream cheese? I found that odd. We sat out on the back patio which was large and lovely. The music was at a fine volume we had no problem carrying on a conversation (Ive seen complaints about the volume in other reviews). However, I pointed out to my boyfriend that I was getting a whiff of an incredibly fishy smell, and he pointed out that it was due the smell of garbage at the building next door being carried to us on the breeze. Luckily I only noticed it a couple times, but that must be hard to bear on windy days.I thought the branding on the glasses was a little tacky. I was a little surprised that my sparkling and red wines were poured in the same size/shape glass. Perhaps the size of the pours (4 ounces) doesnt warrant proper glasses (and on that note, given the small sizes available – 2 ounce and 4 ounce – the pricing was fairly expensive). The glasses were not automatically changed between different coloured wines, but I was at least asked if I wanted them changed. Finally, our server was friendly and helpful in choosing wines, but our glasses sat dry for a little too long a few too many times. Also, Id mentioned a dietary requirement in my online reservation comment for my boyfriend, but the server did not ask about allergies or dietary restrictions, nor did she confirm what Id written online.I think this restaurant is generally fine but for me suffers too many little disappointments. There are others that I would much rather recommend to a friend.
I like it and I don’t like it. The dish was good but I found it small, especially for the price. The kitchen also made a valiant effort getting our tables food out at the same time (table of 12) but by the time I got my dish everything was cold. I think if I wanted a nice night out with one other person I would try it again but otherwise I’ll pass.
About time!. The former funky Twist has been corked, literally! Cork covers most of the surfaces and the space has been transformed and updated with gentle lighting, the overall effect is quite striking and calming. Small tables are interspersed with counters and a tall open-U that is great for groups, as we wereWhile we expected minor glitches since it had opened a few days earlier, and because we were a large-ish group, most everything ran smoothly, some minor issues with heating and cooling that were rapidly rectified. The service was impeccable and there was ample staff, Vronique spent time discussing with members of the group, which was appreciated. Large selection of wines by the glass are nicely presented by the sommeliers and we were given options (and tastes) to accompany each course. The menu is not extensive but the portions are generous enough and everything we (I) tasted was well executed, from the bison tartare, the devilled eggs, the duck confit, the onglet de boeuf, the beets with chvre yogurt.Bravo Vronique, kudos to your team, we all enjoyed our evening at Soif. This is a great spot for a romantic tte–tte or group outing, we are already planning the next one and this will be my go-to spot.
