Love this Salvadorian restaurant where their specialty is pupusas. They have much more like burritos, enchiladas and churros. Family run restaurant that has been open for over 15 years. Best place for El Salvadorian food in town., Authentic and very hospitable. Service slow but place is always very busy. A definite must try for this type of food. Inexpensive and good. montrealfoofoodie.com

Salvadorian home cooking. Family owned. Under-the-radar, low-profile type place. Colorful but simple decor. Smiling service. Simple, unextravagant, flavorful food. Worth a try if you are in the neighborhood.

I’ve had some pretty amazing South American food but never tried from El Salvador. Their specialty here is Pupusas which is like a mini thick pita filled with a thin lining of filling. Options were chicken, chicken and cheese, pork, and bean. You then add a dollop of their coleslaw and a healthy drizzke of their tomato sauce on top. I also added some hot sauce to spice things up. This combination is a winning formula and taste sensation! My other favourite was the chicken and shrimp rice. My GF described it best as the El Salvadorian version of the Yeung Chow Fried Rice. It had strips of chicken breast, nice plump shrimps, and crunchy veggies. Add some hot sauce and you’re good to go.For a nice drink to cool you down, try the Horchata, a chocolate rice milk beverage. Comes in a pitcher and perfect for sharing. They have a nice patio for those who enjoy dining outside. Make sure you come hungry as the portions are quite generous. Oh, and I have to mention that the servers are also super friendly!

Go for the pupusas!. The tamales were good, but not my favorite place to have some. I had the fried plantain and it was really sweet and soft like mashed bananas, not what I thought it was going to be, but still good with a dash of their spicy sauce. I like the yucca but beware, it gets your belly full quite fast! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I had the pupusas with pork/cheese/beans and the one with chicken/cheese. I prefer the chicken one. Be sure to put a lot of tomato salsa and cabbage on it! ๐Ÿ™‚ Tasted as good as in the kitchen of Salvadorian families I went to when I was younger (except in my memory they were more cheesy). Nice little place too, near the big windows and not too loud! Recommended!

Pupusas are tasty but the dining experience was not so good. The pupusas are tasty, they have a generous filling of beans and cheese. The location is nice also with big windows. However we had to insist for a table of our choice even though there were a couple available and the place was not busy. They served us margaritas with sugar instead of salt on the rim forcing us to send them back to fix. We also ordered from a menu then were charged a higher price. When we mentioned this they showed us a modified menu with the different price. Needless to say it left a bad taste in our mouths…

A Go To Place. This is one of my go to’s – it’s Salvadorian cuisine but it’s really tasty, filling and almost a cheap eat depending on what you order. The pupusas are what I usually get with a plate of fried yuca and to drink either cebada or horchata – on this particular visit I had horchata which is a cinnamon type flavoured drink, as for the pupusas they come with different filling but I like the cheese, pork and cheese, pork or cheese and chicken ones but there’s other good stuff on the menu too!

If you’re looking for Central American food this is the place! You can taste the quality as well as freshness in everything they serve. I’ve been a regular for several years and will continue to do so. I’ve tried several restaurants catering Latin Central American however nothing measures up to La Carreta. For those looking to try I highly recommend it.
