Vegetarian restaurant with a few vegan options. The veggie burger itself was excellent, but the lack of sauces with it made the over all dish little disappointing. The couscous salad was pretty good, but was a very small portion. The home-made infusion was overly sour, which killed the other flavours and made it seem like a hot lemonade. The ambiance oozes hipster. The music was loud enough during the daytime to be distracting and make conversation difficult. The price was at the maximum acceptable level for the portions and content of the dishes. I would recommend it if you’re not too hungry and are dining alone.

Sympathique caf vgtarien.

4/5 for Le Cagibi. Atmosphere. That’s what this Mile End cafe has. An eclectic dream come true! This place was recommended to me by former Edmonton resident (now current Montreal resident) Raymond Biesinger, an illustrator who also happens to be the founder of The Royal Bison Craft & Art Fair in Edmonton. So it comes as no surprise that Le Cagibi felt just like the Royal Bison, except in cafe form. I was thrilled at this prospect. The room invokes an entire feeling, from the mis-matched chairs to the kitschy vintage objects and plants adorning the shelves. The space is warm and comfortable, with huge corner-facing windows. In the back there’s an even larger room with a stage for performances – but I was most entranced with the front area. They are open till 12 or 1am every day, making this spot just about the perfect ‘anytime’ place for a bite or simply a place to sit and read or use the computer. The menu appears all on chalkboard, and they do serve alcohol as well, should you want to partake. It should be noted that they only accept cash. After getting settled into a table with bench seating on one side, and after spending a good while staring in awe at the perfectly awesome space, we approached the counter to order. The food is actually all vegetarian, which seems to be a major trend in this city. The sequence is to place your entire order at the counter, and then they’ll bring it to your table once it’s ready. The drink menu featured three hot alcoholic beverages which all sounded great; Magical Mulled Wine, Rachael’s Remedy, and Hoochie Chocolat Chaud. I happened to have an upset stomach that evening, so Rachael’s Remedy (Ginger, lemon, apple juice, whiskey – $6.25) sounded almost too perfect. I was asked if I wanted it with alcohol or without, and I actually opted to have it without. This drink packs a SERIOUSLY powerful and zingy punch! Especially if you get a lot of the ginger in your first few sips. Just the fact that a cure-all warm beverage like this exists is pretty exciting though. I can see it aiding with hangovers and flus alike. Lo-and-behold, my ailing stomach felt a lot better. The wait for the food took a little while, but again, just hanging out in the comfortable space was a treat in itself and we were in no hurry. I ordered the Croque-Chvre (Open faced sandwich with spinach, goat cheese, honey, almonds and sundried tomato pesto – $7.25) with a small soup and salad. The soup was lentil and kale that day. The sandwich appeared almost more like a flatbread with toppings, but it was very, very tasty. There was plenty of shredded spinach and the saltiness from the goat cheese played really well with the sweetness of the honey. The pesto added a binding tanginess and it all very complimentary. I loved that no ingredient was skimped upon and that the flavours were big and exciting. The soup was nice too, plentiful with hearty lentils and big wilted pieces of kale. This plate could easily suffice as a nice lunch and even an entire dinner meal.To end our stay, we got a small dessert to nibble on and share, a Peanut Butter and Chocolate Square ($3.50). Decadent and rich, there was really no going wrong with this choice. Peanut butter and chocolate just make good sense together.Le Cagibi also serves breakfast in the mornings and is just an all-around lovely place to spend some time. The staff is friendly and it’s the perfect place to come even if you just want a coffee and to have someplace to sit around for a while. I loved it. The feeling of the room and the incredible atmosphere is certainly what will easily turn this into one of my go-to hangouts. erikaeatseverything.com

Nice place ti hang out a bit!. Food is veggie and good… to be honest it’s not the greatest veggie food you’ll get in Montreal… But! the atmosphere at le Cagibi makes you want to hang out, mismatched chairs and tables and mismatched utensils and mugs…plugs for you laptops… it’s quite a big place so you can bring a group of friends but there are also small tables (try to get one of the tables at the window and get a view of busy St Laurent street.)
