Solid Establishment. Very nice, small place in a quiet neighborhood. Option to sit along a bar area spanning most of the restaurant behind which the chefs prepare the sushi in front of you. Place is full during peak hours but you’re still seated comfortably and probably won’t ever have to wait that long before getting seated.Very fresh, tasty sushi and VERY reasonably priced combos for 2, 3 or more people. It’s BYOW but they only have 1 beer to choose from: Sapporo, and sake.
Amazing restaurant, very beautiful. WOW. Very warm welcome, impeccable service, outstanding food. Sushi more than perfect in a super interesting variety. Exterior this little restaurant is not that much, but oh what a surprise when you enter. Definitely recommend and experience renew. Thank you!
Amazing. Went for dinner on a Saturday night @ 730pm. You are greeted very warmly. The staff are friendly, courteous and accomodating. My daughter had the Miso soup that had crab in it and said it was delicious. We ordered the Salmon tartare which is one piece for 8 dollars, but is this beautiful salmon tartare on avocado served as a giant heart with the red caviar on top and it sits on this amazing soya based sauce that is crazy delicious. It is enough for 4 people as a first taster course. They seem to break up your order depending on how much you ordered into 2 – 3 services, which is not a problem if you are all sharing the same dishes. We got the tartare served first. Then we got the sushi pizza and the phoenix rolls served second. Both of which are absolutely delicious. The rest of our sushi came all at once. We ordered about 40 pieces total for the three of us. The maki rolls are cut into 5 pieces so they are not so thick that you can barely get one in your mouth, but they are a decent size. I may ask them to cut them into six next time to make them a little easier to eat. Some places leave the rolls way too thick to eat comfortably. That is not the case here. It is just a preference for me to have them thinner. We did not have any dessert. Every thing we ordered was really fresh, very beautiful and delicious. There are about 3 other Sushi places on the west island that I love and are about the same price as Katoreya,..but I have to say I do think Katoreya has raised the bar. You will not regret it. And they deliver!! That’s pretty exciting to me. We ordered at least 8 different types of sushi and each one was a dish I would order again and as good as the previous one. I honestly couldnt pick out a favourite. It is a smallish place but lovely inside and very clean. Definitely could be a date place. It has a romantic ambience. I know that when it was Babaloo’s there was a really nice patio in back. I am hoping that this place will make use of that patio…would be really nice in the warmer weather. Do eat here. The average price for 5 pieces of sushi is about 7.50. Some are a dollar more or less. Oh and I don’t know if this matters to you but the ginger is white not dyed pink. I prefer that. Enjoy!!
Best sushi in town. Sushi for 2 is a large plate at 32$ and is more than filling. The ingredients are always fresh and the staff is accommodating. I’ve never had a bad experience here and we order on the weekly. Specials always pop up and the takeout is always ready when said.
Went to this restaurant for New Year’s Eve, we were a party of 10. We were warmly greeted into an otherwise empty restaurant. We were seated, and I observed an army of staff behind the counter and in front for service. During out time there I observed one other party of ten, that we’re seated directly behind us, as well as a party of four and a party of two. Otherwise, approximately 2/3 of the place was empty. We’re were provided with our menu’s and made our selection, so far so good. Wait staff we’re prompt to fill water glasses, almost perhaps to the point of obsequiesness. But this is where things went off the rail. Despite that army of prep staff behind the counter, food service was erratic. Parts of meals came promptly, while others didn’t get served until much later, after those initially served had finished their meals altogether. Made for an akward evening. As for the food, those who didn’t have sushi, reported a tasty meal, my daughter had teriyaki chicken, another party had the teriyaki beef, and the tempura people were all pleased. I has the sushi, and to be frank, it was mediocre at best, I can describe it as supermarket sushi, perhaps not that good. My advice is if you go, stick to the teriyaki dishes, and stick to your favourite sushi joint.
AMAZING. Wow is mostly all I have to say! Kind service! Great sushi great drinks! Excellent prices lunch menu with so many different varieties! Absolutely adore this place. Entire staff kind and cater to your every need. Will be back many times to come and suggest it to anyone who wants to try a new place for sushi in the west island.
Best sushi in town!. We are always on the lookout for good sushi. What a surprise to have found a renowned chef opening his own place. Chef Hiep and staff will cater to your needs and is more than willing to go the extra mile. Upon request, he will serve fresh wasabi (the regular wasabi is a step up already!).The menu and presentation are well above par, as is the service. The decor is elegant, the price is more than competitive and overall, we feel we have found heaven on the West Island.
